Re: The Old Man Emu (OME) Options Guide

The great thing about the OME rear set-up is that you can always, always bump up to 895's for more rear lift later for hauling gear, towing, bigger tires, etc. You keep the same shocks which is where more of your dollars are anyways. The springs are cheap, can be had for around $65 each. It's like an adjustable rear lift. They are stiff however - BUT I hauled a 450 pound precast concrete landing around town one day and I had no sag whatsoever in the rear. Stock or anything else will noticeably sag under load. The OME's are rated 37% stiffer than stock. That's more than twice all others. The rake is there for a reason, hauling and towing. I like to know I can haul or tow and possibly avoid a reverse rake and/or instability in the front wheels. You can always buy the Downeys and swap out for OME 895E later if you need a stiffer ride. What shocks are you running? That might be the deciding factor.

Re: The Old Man Emu (OME) Options Guide

for the rear shocks i am currently running;
DR Signature Series
Mono-tube Rear Shock
Part# 5-7510

right now i am leaning toward the downey for the softer ride. i typically don't have much gear loaded.

Re: The Old Man Emu (OME) Options Guide

I'm with you on the Downey rear springs, especially with those racing suspension rear shocks. I think you want to stay closer to the DR set-up than going towards the OME springs unless you went with the heavier OME shocks as well. I think the Downey springs will complement the DR shocks very well. Nice setup!

"Typical lift 2" " assumes a 4wd with an ARB or other aftermarket bumper and winch. However if stock bumper is used one might get 2.5" with a 4wd. If one has a 2wd(like I do) they might get 3" of lift with a stock bumper. I now have an aftermarket tube bumper and a winch, so My lift has gone from 3" to 2.75" and might sag to 2.5 " over time. Also a pair of unloaded 886's will get a 4wd close to 3" of lift.
Hope this helps. I'm sure others will have something to add.
I am getting the OME lift, heavy in the front and med in the back... with the intention of adding the ARB bull bar and winch in the future... I have been hearing that I might have problems with that set up and the stock bumper.... what do you think?
I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions!
Thanks!
