Question Which 3" C/O Suspension is stiffest

I have done quite a bit of reading on the different options available for the 3" C/O. Hardluck was even kind enough to let me drive his FJ with a DR lift (very cool). I am vacillating (scary big word) between the Icon and SAW. Can any one give me advise as to which of all the 3" C / O suspensions are stiffest (is that word?).

This is really proving to be a very helpful forum. Thanks for the experienced advice from everyone. I know experience costs $$$.

Re: Which 3" C/O Suspension is stiffest

Stiff means less articulation, but less chance of bottoming out.

I am one of the first to run the Fox 2.5's, and they are incredibly stiff. Not good when you want to droop, but a plus for running oversize tires.

Most of the top coil-overs are adjustable for "stiffness", check the comparison thread for manufacturers, and then dig for specs.

Hope my limited grasp helps a little-Bill

Just put on my Camburg coilovers and UCA's within the last week. Have not had others, so I can't compare. Can only say that I am very happy. Pics in my build up in signature.

Re: Which 3" C/O Suspension is stiffest

I have the Walker Evans setup and tested each side with articulation on the same area on the softest and hardest settings. On the softest, the wheel tucked into the wheel well and would hit the body mount chop. On the hardest, it's about 1.5" from the body mount chop.

well, the Camburg/SAWs have 700lbs springs, so if you look at it from a spring stiffness standpoint, then i would say they are the stiffest. however, i cannot comment on the differences valving makes in overall coilover stiffness.

Re: Which 3" C/O Suspension is stiffest

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback. I like a stiffer suspension because I do a great deal of driving on LA streets and freeways. I figure at 40K miles a year I will soon loosen it up. Since I do not plan on too much rock crawling, I'm thinking the SAW may be a good setup for expedition / light trails and daily driving.

I have been running the SAWs for 6 months now and I really enjoy the setup. It's firmer than the stock setup, but what a nice ride. I highly recommend them.

If you're going with SAW's, call Mark at Metal Tech.
You can't beat his price or customer service!

Yes I would like to do that, but then what would be the best way to get them installed. He is probably too far away (Hmmm Dire Straits) from me.
