Camburg UCAs and lubrication

I just got off the phone with Camburg. I was told to never put anything on the uniball, as it will deteriorate the teflon. Also, if it starts to make noise, you can use white grease on it, but it is still frowned upon. In short, it is self lubricating and stay away from it.

By white grease, I am assuming you mean the lithium grease? That is what I put on it. If it is self-lubricating, why does it squeek a lot?

He just said white grease. I made the same assumption -- white lithium. My guess is that it has gunk in there rubbing on the uniball.

Re: Camburg UCAs and lubrication

I would say for the average less extreme off roader the uniball may not be for them if noise, squeeks and grunts are an issue.
Its one of those things that are an automotive tradeoff---one good thing for a new bad thing.
For example: more articulation along with more noise harshness and vibration In engineering terms> NHV.
The average less heroic driver may want to opt for the Specialty Products UCA which has a more OE style ball but tons of alignment adjustability.
Just my nickel.

exactly. There's a reason why stock is the way it is.

Re: Camburg UCAs and lubrication

Had Camburg's UCAs on my Tacoma and ran them "dry". They will only get worse with time. If you can't handle the noise and it will get old as will all the freakish looks you get driving around, mine got loud, then don't get them. They are a good product though and if you push your rig to its IFS limits then UCAs are a good piece of gear to slap on the rig.

Big Sigh...Wish I had read this earlier. I have been spraying the crap out of mine with WD-40.

Re: Camburg UCAs and lubrication

TiTank and I went with the Light Racing (specialty products) control arms and are extremely happy. Perfectly quite, beefy as hell, and super adjustable. Mine are still in the garage as i'm waiting for my front suspension to arrive, but Don's are on and he loves em. Totally eliminated all the issues he was having with drift and bump steering. And they were able to get the alignment DEAD ON to factory specs. They rock.

WD-40 is not a good lubricant (regardless of what the website says) It is a water repellant and cleaner. The WD stands for Water Displacement. Plus it attracts dirt and grime, so you end up worse off than before you used it.

Re: Camburg UCAs and lubrication

WD-40 is awful for uniball lube. It will collect dirt. Use a high quality thin, Teflon based lube, available at any decent mountain bike store. Wipe em off before and after trail runs. You don't need to drown them in lube. A little bit goes a long way. This info is coming strait from Total Chaos Fab, which makes an almost identical product with the same style Teflon lining.
