Can I run 285/70R17 tires with stock suspension?

Can I run 285/70R17 tires with stock suspension (on the street only) until I get the 3" lift installed? Did not know how to search this Quest. If so I'll go & have tires put on today.

If you do a body mount chop..if not on turns it will rub like crazy.

Re: Can I Run...

I have the stock suspension and stock alloy wheels. And I am running 285/70/17 Cooper STTs.

You will NEED a body mount chop unless you want to hear the thump, thump, thump, when turing corners even on the street.

It also depends on the brand of tire. There are some differences in real size for the same tires designation.

They will rub on the body mount on tight turns.

Re: Can I Run...

Thanks guy's,confirmed what I was thinking,I'll just have to wait. Just busting waiting to get it all done. The stock tires stink. Now I'll have more time to drive myself even more nutz trying to decide what tire's to get on my tiny budget. Mastercraft C/T-- BFG A/T--or--The Cooper STT.?????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????
Thanks again

Re: Can I run 285/70R17 tires with stock suspension?

My FJ must be weird or something cause I have had 285/R70/17s BFG KM2’s on for a few weeks on 17” stock alloy rims with no problems. I have a SAW lift on order but have also been to Moab last weekend for some rock play. After some light wheeling on Metal Masher in Moab I checked to see if I could see any rub marks but had none that I could see. I did try not to turn hard, especially while dropping down of a ledge.
I have not done the body chop yet. When I put the lift on I will do some closer inspection and see if I need to get the sawzal & welder out.
I don’t know if there are slight differences in the way they are put together or not. I may have just gotten lucky

If you go with BFG A/T's, they won't rub. That is what I am running right now with a stock lift.

Pics here.
