OME 885 vs OME 886 - a picture comparison

So...

I put on the 885's and wasn't impressed. My rig is a little overweight (she prefers the term busty ) so with the 885's I had an awful rake.

Here's a couple pics of the rig with the 885's. I had just detailed it so I'm sure I am posting more pics than you need to see, but bare with me. I'm proud of her...

Time to swap the coils AGAIN. The 886's are my FOURTH set of front coils (stock, 883, 885, 886). Hoping the next time I unbolt all that crap it is Icon's going in, then I'm done!

Sorry for the night pics, and my laziness to get the tripod. You get the idea...

It is definitely more level and much more to my tastes. Please remember to wash behind your ears... er umm... I mean get an alignment after toying with your suspension.

Ohh, by the way... I bought one of those hydraulic coil compressors seeing as how I love swapping coils and hate those threaded suckers (even though I bought two really HD sets of those threaded suckers). The OME 886's were too much for the poor steel fabrication on the hydraulic compressor and things got a little bent... so now I get to re-fab and reinforce my spring compressor. Below are some carnage shots:

The contraption:

The carnage:

The rollers were obviously a little too sloppy which allowed the movable jaw to c0ck and dig one of the rollers into the square tubing. I just shifted the whole operation higher up the pillar and hit it with a hammer when it started to twist. It still bit in a little higher up but not as much as now I was looking down in there for that. More rollers and thicker square tubing are going to be added. You know it's funny... I never had any trouble with it and the stock coils.

Just as a little addition, I will list my setups and how pleased I was with them.

1. Stock - well, you know

2. ARB, winch, skids, and stock suspension - Crappy. Bad brake dive and handling. If you like your @$$ in the air and a low rider feel up front, run this setup.

3. ARB, winch, skids, and 883's on stock front shocks, stock rear - Absolutely fine ride with an *almost* level rig that will get you by - until the lift bug bites.

4. ARB, winch, skids, and 885's on N140S front, 895's with N141 rear - Okay at best. Apparent front rake, seemingly increased brake dive (possibly due to increased front rake), slight "rocking" motion when stopped.

5. ARB, winch, skids, and 886's on N140S front, 895's with N141 rear - Excellent. Nice and firm, level rig. Hopefully it aligns okay...

Prediction for the future:

6. Icon Vehicle Dynamics full 4 Corner setup - Priceless (I'm hoping!!!!)

Much Better FJoel. I think you will be very pleased with the 886s. I'm running 886/896 without a winch/winch bumper and the ride is much better than stock and much less harsh than I thought it would be offroad. Nothing like my tacoma with a HD suspension.

Joel, Our Fj's look surprisingly familiar on the front end.
I have my 886's coming in on wednesday so i will be doing the same. I have also been considering the Snorkel.

Soon to have another part of the front of our FJ's the same, cough..collar..cough.

Your FJ must be pretty busty. Exactly how busty is it? 250lbs?

The arb weighs right at 150 and i am pretty sure the warn m8000 (if that is what he has) is 80 with cable. The IPF are about 10 lbs. It's close to 250. I run the same set-up minus the very expensive fog lights in the bumper wings.

Someone should make a coilspring compressor out of a highlift jack....

Actually, I should. Don't steal my idea!!

Don't forget my Budbuilt skids, and I won't forget the collars!

I like the Hi-lift idea for compressing springs. You should roll with that!
