Yes, I know. I installed many of them. Even with the diff drop, I feel the CV's are still pretty extreme. I haven't seen any problems yet. I'm just trying to see if anyone has a better solution.
run a 3" lift?

sorry, just kidding

I guess my question got lost somewhere. Forums are great for info but it's like the internet, too much to filter.
I've seen pictures of a typical RC install, and the CV angles retain a more stock appearance. They are far from extreme, in my opinion; My 3" which is actually a bit more than 3", has more severe CV angles. I've run a lift for a 1+ year(s) now and have had no issues. Why would you change anything if you've yet to experience problems? It seems like indulging in frivolity to me and creating new issues/projects. To each his/her own though.

Re: RC6 and extreme CV angles

Chewy, i think this is a very interesting thread especially after reading tons of posts about CV failure. I was thinking of adding a 2-inch spacer (way later)over my 6 inch, which is not going to happen with stock CV.

Ok maybe this is insane, but couldn't a vendor or some specialist make some sort of better CV boots, since i dont really want to spend on an SAS and new lifts....??
Ideas chewy?
Thanks
Abdul

As I remember correctly Terry mentioned that All Pro Off Road would not be developing more IFS goodies since the SAS kit is completed. I'm fairly certain the beefier axles were in the running for inevitable production.

Edit: I also recall reading that there are currently beefier CV axles readily available for the 4Runner.

Re: RC6 and extreme CV angles

i am not well versed in this area but from what I've read before, the main problem is limiting droop, so a quick way to ease your worries are limiting straps and I've also heard of sliding CV axels...but I don't think any are available for the FJ yet...

The CV angle on the RC kit is alot higher than the two other 6" kits (procomp and fabtech) but I would think RC did their best to design in the most diff drop with out cutting the cross member. I mean they know the biggest worry is CV failure and that the success of their product depends on the lowest CV angle possible. I'm sure if you want it any lower youd have to cut the cross member. But who wants a big ass snow plow of a cross member at the front of their FJ (no offence to those who went with procomp or fabtech)

I haven't had any problems yet, and actually my only beef with the RC kit is the stinkin squeeky ass rear upper arms...some zerk fittings on those would be nice...I've hinted this over and over but I don't think RC is goin to take the hint...I'm probably goin to buy the extendable allpro upper arms and hope they don't hit the gas tank...

My advice is don't worry your self crazy over it, replacing a CV isn't to utterly expensive, and you put the 6" lift on knowing it could possible cause problems...and from some of the pictures I've seen, alot of the 3" kits have higher CV angles than ours anyway

Oh another idea I had was getting the adjustable coilovers from radflo, and dialing it down to the lowest lift possible in the front that would prevent rubbing (say 4.5" to 5" of lift instead of a full 6)...that would greatly reduce the CV angle..just another idea

Your question is if the RC 6" lift put the CV's in an extreme angle, right? The answer you got was no, it doesn't, in fact, it is very close to stock. If you think that the stock angle of the CV's is "pretty extreme" than I'm not sure what is out there for you.

The fact of the matter is that the RC 6" lift keeps the CV angles in a "good" angle and is "better" than the RC 3" lift and many would argue that is "might" be better than the OME CV angles.

An easy answer is to look for pics of Tennessee Squire's build up thread and/or Matt07FJ's build up threads and compare their pics to others with stock angles. I've posted pics of my CV angles with OME 885's and 886's and you can see that they are what I would call "marginal"...

Re: RC6 and extreme CV angles

I actually want the RadFlo shocks and put it on the highest setting, that dang Fab Fours bumper weighed the front down so much. But I don't know if im going to keep the Fj considering it only gets 11-13 mpgs, and its my daily driver. When I first lifted it to the 6inches, gas was 2.15 here now its 3.39

Re: RC6 and extreme CV angles

Yeah, the rc6 is pretty extreme This is mine on a jack, so this is what they'd look like several times while on your average trail. But so far, I haven't had any issues. And I beat it up pretty good.
