Keep stock 16" TRD S.E wheels with 6 inch lift

After negleting my Cruiser and working on my other money pits for awhile; I am back on the FJ. So I have some Questions.

I'm at a loss between the Icon 3" Coilovers and the Fabtech 6"...

People that did 3" kits, are you getting enough ground clearance? Or should I do a 6" ? ....My biggest problem has been clearance.

Can I keep my stock 16" TRD wheels with a 6 inch lift?

You will get the most use and performance out of a the Icon's.

But if you do decide to do a 6", go with Rough Country. It's designed with wheeling in mind.

And i don't know about the wheel's..

Re: Keep stock 16" TRD S.E wheels with 6 inch lift

I feel your pain with the 3 or 6 inch dissision...
I an thinking about it also...

I do agree with DominicG, if I did a 6" today, it would be the RC 6".
From what I read, you might have/want to change out a few other parts as well with a 6" lift
Body mount chop and control arms might be a good idea. 6" is a lot for the stock FJ, sure does look sweet though.
Man the more I think about it, the more I want the full Rough Country 6"...

If all I were to do is a 3", I will get a full OME setup. Thats just me though.

I would like to know what users of a 3" lift think about the added clearance as well. 3" might not look like a lot, but is might be better then it looks.

Hey Dom, you know like half of the people with FJ's in Cali don't you (I read a lot)?
What do you think?
3 or 6?

I'd say a 3". Most anyone who does serious wheeling will say 3" is the maximum. Unless your TennesseeSquire (he just wheels that good). A 3" is that extra boost in clearance, without hurting your suspension geometry, and raising your center of gravity.

Unless you are damn a good driver, 6" is just to much if plan on wheeling. You do get a bonus in clearance.. but at the same time you don't. Your cross member is still in the exact same spot as it would be with 6" lift. Also you'll have the super high center of gravity, excess stress on all front suspension parts, and driveline (if you go with 35"s).

Btch, you already got a nice set of powdercoated TRD wheels. At least give us no SE vehicle owners a chance. j/k

Seriously though, if Migs doesn't want em', I'll gladly buy them from you.

Ground clearance is affected by tire size not body lift. Body lift allows for bigger tires hence more ground clearance.

You can put 37's or bigger on a 16" wheel, so yes you can keep your wheels.

Edit:The TRD's are 7.5's so I'm guessing a 285 max width tire. Might "look" a tad narrow on a FJ with a 6" lift.

Re: Keep stock 16" TRD S.E wheels with 6 inch lift

I think stock/TRD wheels are too narrow for a 6" lift.
I don't want to wear my truck out with 35" tires, so it's 3" springs for me.

6" lift, new wheels, and 35" tires is just too much money for not much gain in performance.

Very good.

I just ordered Toytec's new adjustable front coilovers and their custom rear springs to go with my Bilsteins. good price.
