Camburg & Sway-a-way?

Does Camburg make Sway-a-way or visa-versa? They look exactly the same and the Sway-a-way sight shows Camburg UCAs, and it looks like Camburg just puts the Sway-a-way name on their C/Os. If so, why buy one over the other?

Re: Camburg & Sway-a-way?

Valving/tuning and subtle cosmetic differences. SAW makes coilovers to Camburg's specs. I suggest you call Scott at Camburg and Mark at Metal-Tech (Mark sells SAW's). Ask them the differences. Scott is very knowledgable and helpful about explaining the differences, i.e. valving/tuning, especially for Baja-type racing (see Team Necessary running Camburg coilovers in the Two Roads series). Mark knows all the installation tricks and is a pro at setting up a hybrid SAW/OME suspension. Good question and good luck!

Re: Camburg & Sway-a-way?

Not completely sure, but I think that the SAWs use a stiffer valving as well as heavier coils. I'm certain that the SAWs use 700lb. coil, and I think the Camburgs use 650lb. coil.

The only benefit over having a stiffer valving is if you have something like a heavy fr. bumper to compensate the weight.

Re: Camburg & Sway-a-way?

I spoke to Jery at Camburg and he set me straight, Sway-a-Way makes the C/Os for them and quite a few others. Basically the same set up but they are willing to make a good deal with free shipping.

SAW makes the coilovers, Camburg is one of several companies that sell rebranded SAWs. SAW tunes them to the specs of the resellers. my Camburgs have 700lb coils and stiffer valving. the 650lb coils were the original design that was marketed for the Tacoma and the FJ. the 700lb setup is the newer setup that is specific for the FJ.
