Re: FJ Alignment Specs

There will be a lot of us with lift/alignment questions very soon, so any updates would be greatly appreciated.

So with a 3" lift what should I shot for on the numbers to be right on?

You will get everything back in the green except the caster you can fix that by getting a good upper control arm.

Does anyone have this info? Im installing the FJ3-FRCC from toytec this week. I would like to know what alignment specs I need to use.

I noticed these were psoted earlier Camber at 0.0 and 0.0. Caster left 2.7, Caster right 2.9 (This compensates for road crown). Toe left 0.05, Toe right 0.05. between adding the positive toe (toe in) and positive caster (lengthening the wheel base). However, I know this was used on a stock FJ with no lift. So, will this also work with the lift?

Or should I just go to the alignment shop with these specs (1)

1. FRONTSpecificationNeg. TolerancePos. ToleranceLeft Camber0.15°0.50°0.50°Right Camber0.15°0.50°0.50°Cross CamberLeft Caster2.82°0.50°0.50°Right Caster2.82°0.50°0.50°Cross CasterTotal Toe0.08°0.17°0.17°Left SAI12.35°0.50°0.50°Right SAI12.35°0.50°0.50°

When you get the alignment done the caster will more than likelly not go back to within specs. What you want to do is get camber as close to center as possible and have the right front caster be .40-.50* greater than the left side this will insure that the vehicle tracks straight and will have no tire wear issues as long as tires are rotated properlly.

Re: FJ Alignment Specs

I'm glad someone here has decided to post up alignment specs.

I have had an alignment issue (VSC and VSC Trac lights illuminated) since two weekends ago and spent all day at a dealer this past weekend only to hear them say, "We can't align your FJ. It's really out of alignment and you should go to a tire specialist." They still can't diagnose my overheating issue, but that's another thread.
Unnamed dealer actually had my FJ for 5 hours and did absolutely nothing to it but add brake fluid! And then proceded to tell me that fixed the VSC lights! The VSC lights reset after you turn the ignition off and on again. You actually have to drive a few hundred yards to get them to come back on. And they did about two blocks from the dealer. What a waste of a day!

Went across the intersection to Kauffman Tire to get an alignment from them. They said, we don't have the specs and you have a modified suspension, so we can't do it either. W-T-F!!!

So I called another dealer, who I know has done an alignment for a buddy of mine's FJ after he tweaked his alignment on a trail. They heard my long story and promised me I would get to talk to an actual technician before leaving the keys.

I dropped it off at another dealer this AM, so we'll see. The tech didn't sound too optismistic about the overheating issue since it hasn't been duplicated yet in a garage, but seems to think they can handle the alignment/VSC lights without a problem. I didn't have the specs above in hand, but I now have them when they call with the status report later today.

Thanks again for this thread and all who have contributed to it.

I know the feeling. I hate even going to the dealer for issues. Seems like they have your vehicle for 5 minutes and find nothing or 5 hours and find nothing. I just think a lot of the technicians could care less. I think if it's anything that presents a problem they try to push it away.

Of course this is the way it is in every job. You have good ones and bad ones. Unfortunately I seem to find the ones that don't wanna do anything.

The specs should help with the alignment.

Re: FJ Alignment Specs

Not sure if it helps but here is my alignment read out from the dealer when I had my alignment fixed two weeks ago. It was out significantly but it was the first alignment I'd done after about a dozen trail rides. It's a little hard to read at first because of the way the colors scanned into black and white. For what it's worth.

How does it ride on the highway? Looking at your caster spec it looks like it would pull?

Re: FJ Alignment Specs

Rides great. Doesn't wander a bit. I drive 32 miles highway each way to and from work (current odometer is about 19K) and she tracks great through traffic. In fact it rides so good it makes me wonder if the alignment was done correctly after I first put on my lift (about 14K ago).
