Suspension Questions: Please Help!

I am considering buying a used 2008 FJ with the following components professionally installed:

OME - 885 Front Coil Springs
OME - 895 Rear Coil Springs
OME - N140S Front Struts
OME - N141 Rear Shocks

Could somebody fill me in on this equipment? Bottom of the Line? Middle of the road? Top of the Line?

any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Quality springs and shocks, much better than stock. Not top of the line, but the next best to it. Well made and very reputable.

Re: Suspension Questions: Please Help!

I am running the same OME parts on my 2008 FJC, installed when the truck was delivered, but have blown 2 shocks in 33,000 miles. I have a lot of off-road miles but I drive quite conservably... not at all hard on equipment.

I have heard that OME shocks have slipped in quality recently. Maybe I just got a couple of bad ones as I don't know anyone else who has experienced problems.

They are not top of the line, nor second either, but pretty darn good.

Re: Suspension Questions: Please Help!

OME = Work Horse of FJ Suspension. This is there medium weight lift. Add a extra 130 lbs to the back and it should be similiar to stock ride. Great if you plan on adding rear bumper down the road. If front springs are matched (no info but most likely are) the set up will be able to handle one of the lighter bumpers out there and winch. It is a good choice for all around suspension. If you run high speed whoops consistiently and big hits the shocks will fail due to they are not valved for that kind of terrain and do not have remote resevoir etc....etc.

Re: Suspension Questions: Please Help!

That is the Medium Front and Medium Rear setup. Which is what you want. I have the Heavy Front (886) & Medium Rear (895) setup on mine with heavy bumpers front and rear. The heavy springs they used to sell for the FJC are now not recommended since they don't match weight of our trucks and the shocks (N140s) and the result is blown shocks from over extending. I've had two N140s's replaced by ARB USA/OME under warranty, but they have told me that they won't do it anymore, since they have re-assessed the suspension to weight ratios.

That being said, ARB USA stands behind their products and are very easy to deal with when you do have a problem. You won't be disappointed for that price point. Most "better" setups will cost upwards of double what OME costs.

Re: Suspension Questions: Please Help!

OME are ones of the best for the money you pay, because if you are looking for better ones, you will have to pay 2 times more the $$$$.

I run OME mediums and they are very good.

ARB told me the same thing regarding the front spring/shock combo which I had some difficulty swallowing as I bought what they spec'd at them time of purchase. Buy anyway, one of my blown shocks was in the rear. Scott of Expedition West fame told me he has heard of other OME shocks blowing so it is not unique. Next one blows and I will chuck the OME and go with Icon. I think the shocks are better and really like the adjustable ride height so I can get rid of the FJC lean to the left.

Despite the tone of my post I am still an ARB fan for a lot of their products.
