Re: "Factory style" recessed fog lights in stock bumper (development stage pics)

Spent a little time working on getting the trim flange details today.
Here's what I "sketched" out. Tried to re-look at a "no-bracket" option, not sure if I like it or not. May do some more "pondering".

modeled the Hella light

created the flange

assembled them

put in some hardware

took a look from a couple of different view points

Free space around the light kind of bugs me ....

Smart move to counterbore the hardware. I have to agree, the space between the light and flange seems a bit much.

Re: "Factory style" recessed fog lights in stock bumper (development stage pics)

If you close in the back a little with another flange of some sort, the gap won't show and it won't be any different than many other fog lamps.

Nice design work

Re: "Factory style" recessed fog lights in stock bumper (development stage pics)

I agree.

I was leaving room for adjustment and aiming (about 10 degrees).
I think that was too much. I think I will reduce the opening until about 5 degrees, reduce the od of the flange and back cut for fastener clearance on the back side.

Also looking at possibly using set screws for adjustment and holding which could reduce the od of the "mounting" cylinder.

Sometimes you just need the parts "in hand" and those won't be here for a couple of days yet.

Thanks for the input.

Re: "Factory style" recessed fog lights in stock bumper (development stage pics)

well boys and girls ... for those following this, you will have seen a typical design process. some things work, some don't!

did not like yesterdays design, went back to an original concept and as they say in the 'ol machine shops ... it's time to "make some chips".

hopefully will get some parts quickly and then do the install pics next.

then went to the computer and cranked her out

Re: "Factory style" recessed fog lights in stock bumper (development stage pics)

Swiss,

I've been looking at the same Hella foglights. I was thinking of putting them in the lower "mouth" to the left and right of where the front license plate would be mounted (if you had one). I couldn't come up with a way to cut the plastic OEM crosshatch cleanly. I nice plastic bezel like your design would be perfect.

Nice work. I enjoying watching your proect develop!

I bet if you sent your bezel design to FJoel he could turn out some sweet annodized aluminum in black finish and make it look really sweet!
