Actually, what was meant here was that the mirror would stay exactly as it is and where it is, but the mounting point where the mirror mounts into the roof cross member would be "co-utilized" so to say. The new map light concept would have the map light mounted in front of the mirror and towards the rear of the vehicle (and on the ceiling). This way, the map light would be in front of you, aimed where it needs to be aimed, and it would look like it came from the factory... not some added on thing.
ok, i feel like an idiot now just go ahead and smack me on the back of the head

now that its no longer clear as mud, i'm def interested...

Re: Overhead Maplight Kit

Sounds interesting. I was thinking about one of the more invasive "cut a hole in the headliner" mods, but if this is quicker/easier and still functional, I'd love it.

Re: Overhead Maplight Kit

Any light you can add IMO is great! If it was ez to install, that is a huge plus.

Re: Overhead Maplight Kit

Hi Boys and Girls ... quick update on this project.

I am so excited; I know this baby is going to happen!

Spent a little time yesterday finding a different light source and I think I have got it. The first people I contacted (4 times) blew me off.

Finalized the mounting details today and the wire harness.

Also, timed myself today with a simulated install with the parts I have so far..
30 minutes .... You will be amazed in the simplicity of this.

Will get back to you when I have more details, need to go trim bushs and mow the yard.

How about a switch mount on the dash?
