More recent EDIT (But still, fvck Photobucket): Imgur Album: https://imgur.com/gallery/ff7IVnu
EDIT: Fvck you Photobucket. This is a link to the album at least. http://s13.photobucket.com/user/iwashmycar/library/Discovery Console
I would like to begin that all credit for this mod goes to FJXplor.
He posted his up and I just had to give it a shot. The following link is his quick explanation which I went off of:

I also used SwissArmy's how-to on auxiliary dome light wiring:

Adding another dome light is completely optional.
Started by finding a console from a 96-02? Land Rover Discovery. I found it at the local Pull-A-Part for $17.XX! Don't be discouraged if it looks really beige or brown... It actually matches the FJ very well.
Here is what I started with:
Here are parts I got from Lowes. The shallow anchors (made for hollow-core doors (1/8"-1/4")), washers, and the hole plugs. More on these below...
First thing is first... Get your Dremel with cut-off wheel, or whatever you like to use, and start cutting:
I had cut the space for the rear-view mirror so I could test fit. The sides were still in the way, so off they came:
Cleaned up the cuts best I could with a Dremel sanding wheel, and foam sanding blocks from Lowes:
Now the sides. I made a cut, but a test-fit revealed I needed to take off more. In retrospect I should have kept more of the high side in front of the hole (see pics):
See how the high-side is a little far from the headliner?:
EDIT: I would cut it like the following, then adjust based on the headliner curve. Should keep it closer this way:
After the initial cuts I did a LOT of shaping and testing over and over again for a closer fit:
The console has feet that used to go up to the Land Rover's roof structure through the headliner... Ours will sit ON the headliner, so the feet must be trimmed flush:
Now I will go on to roof mounting. I will show the dome light later since it isn't necessary.
Hold the console up to the roof. With the visors up it sort of has a 'sweet spot' it likes to sit in. You will need to use a little screwdriver, awl, or pointy object to mark the hole locations.: (NO PIC)
You will then punch the holes for the mounting anchors. I first used a small screwdriver, then the big one pictured below:
Insert the anchors: (after you push it in they come with a little plunger you need to push into them to set them (instructions on bag)
Anchors!.. I used tape to mark the front location of the console to keep it straight:
