Re: 2007 Lone Star Toyota Jamboree!!

Valkyrie, I'm thinking of signing up. I'm somewhat new to this and hoping to use this event to learn more about offroading and get some experience with my FJ in different driving conditions. As of yet I've only been in sand with it. Do you feel this would be a good opportunity for me to learn from you more experienced guys? Anyone willing to teach, because I'm always ready to learn. Thanks for any info.

If you come out to any of the big organized events you will be pleased to find that most offer trail rides designed for the beginners. You will certainly learn the dos and don'ts from experienced wheelers that have been doing this for many years. Don't let the fear of being inexperienced keep you away...come out and start getting the experience and have a great time with a great group of guys and gals!

Re: 2007 Lone Star Toyota Jamboree!!

Absolutley.

There are organized, guided runs with experienced Trail Bosses.

Groups are based on ability of vehicle and ability/willingness of driver.

I will most likely be a leader for a group on the bunny trials, which generally are a light trail ride (typical forset service type roads) and easy trails.

After one of those rides (usually 2-3 hours) you will have a very good perspective on you and you vehicle's ability and your comfort level. Then you can decide what direction you would like to take: either work on some basic essentials (clearing obstacles, off-camber driving, hill climbs/decents) or challenge yourself a little more or maybe even ride with someone doing some more challenging wheeling.

There is something for everyone.

It's getting close.

Do I need a CB?

Re: 2007 Lone Star Toyota Jamboree!!

Good question.

Yes, an operating CB very helpful, I wouldn't dream of going on a trial without one. A permanently mounted one is preferable to a handheld, but at this point whatever you can beg, borrow or steal will do.

If someone deosn't like the "look" of a radio or is averse to drilling holes, the Cobra 75WXST Remote CB & Weather Radio is an excellent choice. Coupled with a little Will magnetic mount CB you will have a good setup.

In addition to a CB, you should have:
front & rear recovery points
tow rope, chain, cable, or strap
jack, lug wrench, and a spare tire.
first aid kit
fire Extinguisher
basic tool kit

Everything should be secured in/to your vehicle.

Re: 2007 Lone Star Toyota Jamboree!!

Looks like a dozen or so FJs will be there next week!

Hope to be there early afternoon Friday. When's everyone else arriving?
