For those of us down here in the Houston area, it's Mardi Gras time in Galveston. I wanted to see if anyone was intereseted in heading down there in FJ style.
I know it can get ghetto at times at the street level, but if we can work some connections and get a balcony.....please let me know.
This weekend or next would be the best. Bring Your Own Beads!
Oh, I used to love Galveston Mardi Gras! I grew up in League City, we made it most years, 1985 - 1995! I have some great pictures of events I hardly remember!
It's gotten so bad that I stopped going about 3 years ago. What did it for me was seeing the drunk drivers. Coming back across the bridge, a truck went by doing about 90 with no less than 8 people in the back. My buddy made the comment that those idiots are going to get killed... What do you know, we came across them about 2 miles down the road, truck flipped and people laying everywhere. After that, I said no more.
Plus, I get to do the real thing this year!!

The great city of New Orleans--Where the schools never open, and the bars never close...
We went on a cruise out of Galveston the day after the Mardi Gras celebration a couple of years ago. What a disaster. The streets and sidewalks were covered, and in some cases a foot deep, in trash. Can only imagine what it was like that night.
I work down in Galveston and people are expecting this year to be a dissappoinment. I heard the city is no longer going to charge to get onto the Strand and there will be few vendors.

That's just the same as New Orleans always was! Completely trashed, every night. 5am the street cleaners came around, and it started all over again.
Well it looks like me running my big mouth has paid off....I'll be going down Friday night for Mardi Gras, and managed to secure myself a place to stay. You got to love talking about weekend fun with friends of friends, got a beach house lined up for the night and everything.
I swear, this FJ is a good luck charm (knock on wood).
