Mileage for 4x4 auto without extra heavy mods

I'm asking here because I'm in Houston. When I look at this topic in general, the results vary a little too much since driving conditions, weather, and gas quality, and mods are so different throughout the US. In Houston, and other many other cities in Texas, FJ's usually on flat roads. I know that the ones on this forum may hit the dirt more often than most that are sold, but I am talking to the daily drivers here.

I'm seeing several 18mpg+ reports from other states, but from the 3 Houston owners I know, they are getting 13-15mpg on Premium. 2 of the FJs are stock, one has a lift and big tires.

1)How is your mileage?
2) Which city?
2) %city / %highway
4) grade of fuel
5) tire size if other than stock
6) Do you have a roof rack?
7) Other modifications

Re: Mileage for 4x4 auto without extra heavy mods

1) I get about 24-30 mpg at around 35 mph, and above 40 mph it starts dropping. Acceleration drops that to 2-8 mpg -- keep this in mind. Accelerate slowly, and hang at about 35-40 mph. I average about 17mpg

2) Houston
2 (3?)) 90% city/10% highway

4) Premium gas

5) Stock tires

6) Yes

7) All Pro sliders

Use a scanguage. We all get it (24-30mpg), but there is only about a 5mph window that it happens. I'm guessing 30 with the wind/24 against

Re: Mileage for 4x4 auto without extra heavy mods

15-16 mpg

50% highway 50% city

The ONLY way I could get 24-30 is with all downhill driving and the wind to my back.

Steady speed, ~10mph headwind. Let me add that there was only 1 mpg difference over a period of 5 seconds, and that the scanguage has been dead-on for multiple fill ups.

I was reading a tad over 30 on the way back but I had already put the camera away.

Maybe it's the synthetic oil, but the findings are VERY consistant

50% highway 49% city 1% offroad. If I drive easy and follow the speed limits I may get 14 to 17mpg. If I drive aggressively,12.5 to 14mpg. I use my trip meters and record my milege and gallons pumped at fillups.
