Hardly any DFW trails

I'm new to off roading, so this may have been answered already but I searched and couldn't find any info. But I'm curious why most of the Texas trails are in south Texas. Looks like Gilmer is basically it around this area. Any specific reasons for this or are their trails that I'm missing? Thanks

One big reason - Land use rights.
Another big reason - insurance for "off road parks"

You could head south a bit more and goto General Sams -- General Sams!

Not a huge place.. but not bad either.

Other reasons for the lack of trails -- the DFW area is FLAT -- most established off road areas are around large rock structures, hills, and dried up creek beds.

The city of Bridgeport is supposed to be building a new off-road park, but no word yet of when it will be open.

You might read through this:
Houston: Next FJ Gathering at General Sames Offroad Park, march 29th

General Sams Offroad Park - Huntsville TX

Stock FJ you will be fine on 98% of all the stuff out there.

And we will be there this weekend with the Xterra guys as well.

Thanks Chaos. I didn't even think about insurance and that most of this area is flat. Guess I'll have to suck it up and do a road trip soon.

Re: Hardly any DFW trails

There are some creek bottoms in N. Tarrant county that I splash around in. IT's pretty much all mud and no climbing of any kind.

a side note about the law and vehicles in freshwater in Texas:

There used to be a nice place up in Nocona, but the family sold the land.
