Re: Sears Torque wrench for wheels

I'll wait until Husky has a comparable tool, I don't deal with the Sears Corporation.

X2, Sears is currently on a 5 year ban from my cash over a rotten deal on a Water Softener Warranty. But, my torque wrench is a craftsman and of good quality. Of course, you can buy Craftsman at K-Mart now, but it's still Sears Corporate.

Re: Sears Torque wrench for wheels

Even a cheap torque wrench - infrequently used - is better than no torque wrench. With aluminum wheels and 4 wheel disk brakes, having consistent torque is important to minimise damage

I'm not much of a "touchy-feely" guy, so I'd rather depend on a torque wrench for proper results. Not worth warping a brake rotor over "saving" $30.

At my home I have a cheap Canadian Tire brand torque wrench. It only gets used twice a year - if even that often - when I swap from my "all season" wheels/tires to my steel wheels and winter tires on the FJ and Prius.

At my hobby farm, I have an expensive Snap On torque wrench. I always recheck the torque when I drive out, and it's correct

I am glad I saw this thread. I was in the market and was considering the Craftsman, but since I saw this, I may look at the Snap-On. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Why? The only reason people dont like Crafstsman here is cause they had issues with sears on other products.
Take it from me I sell tools for a living, craftsman is good quality for a reasonable price and a great warranty. Snap-on is nothing but a marketing company. They have good tools but its over priced and its up to the individual truck guy to warranty it. If u buy one wrench and tell him u will never buy from him again, 99% chance you wont get a warranty. Sears Ive brought a socket set in dirty and beat up with the quick release not working they gave me a brand new one no questions asked.

Not so; see post #6 above.

So have I, but that is a red herring - the warranty on Craftsman torque wrenches is in days (90 days IIRC), not the lifetime warranty of their other hand tools.

U can say lifetime warranty all you want but the warranty is up to the individual seller as is the price. Snap-on usually uses a 3.5x mark over actual cost. Lifetime warranty on a screwdriver and a socket is no big deal.

Galpin ford the largest ford dealer in the world wont allow Craftsman trucks on the lot, for the fact that one truck wouldnt warranty something another truck sold. Now some of you might say "my craftsman guy warranties everything never says no" well #1 thats just him , it varies form seller to seller, #2 its cause you re-buy from him!

Im one of the few licenced Goodyear industrial hose resellers that offers unconditional lifetime warranty. The offical paper is like brake-pads lifetime of the original product, the replacement carries no warranty. Most guys dont read that. But if your a good customer ill replace the same hose a billion times. But you buy one hose from me and never buy again U get the written warranty. This is how the industry works. Sears is a exception. They dont use buying trends as a warranty gauge.

I ment snap-on sorry to much egg-nog. But snap-on parks on the public street still and the tech's can walk out and buy. Im not ragging on snap-on just cause I sell the same stuff, I dont even sell individual users like them. I sell the entire dealerships.
Also snap-on is the most easy competition to over come, 4 example, they have a new uber screwdriver, rubber grip handle, so strong u can use the flat head as a chisel. They sell them $11 bucks each for a dang basic size flat head screwdriver! I can sell you the same exact one (with out the name), same warranty, 1/2 price, and I still make full commission. But if a guy says to me $99 bucks for a set ($200 full set from snap-on)??? I buy them for 99cents (ie harbor freight crap) if it breaks I buy a new one. I cant over come that.

Re: Sears Torque wrench for wheels

Chatsworth, I am not selling or defending Snap-on, nor am I against Craftsman; I have plenty of both. All I'm saying is that from personal experience my Craftsman torque wrenches have all broken and my Snap-on ones have not. YMMV.

My only point on the warranty issue is that Craftsman does NOT guarantee their torque wrenches for life, as they do their regular ratchets. Your post about returning a Craftsman "socket set" and getting a replacement could leave someone with the impression that they would do the same for a torque wrench, which they would not unless the clerk was just stupid.
