GoodYear impact

Ther Goodyear impact is a great product. It outperformed several others in testing, costs less that $100 and the local "lock and flat" people love them.. Ron

has to be my DeWalt 1/2 inch impact wrench . It save some time and effort when changing wheels or other large and tight lugs and bolts.

I've had good luck with my DeWalt . It has busted off every lug i've tried (300 lbs.).They also have lithium batteries out that will fit it.

Has anyone run a corded impact wrench from the factory inverter? Is there enough juice to power one?
I tried using mine and it wouldn't even break a lug nut loose that was torqued to 80 lbs. I need to Tim Taylor my outlet for MORE POWER!

Impact

Personally, I wouldn't use the built-in unit for anything big. Things like that tend to melt and burn stuff. I have a very nice one that came from Sam's for less than $50. It connects directly to the battery with mini jumper cable type clips, so if it burns its self up nothing on the FJ dies.

I spoke with several roadside assistance people (kids that drive around and change tires for people) and they all use the Goodyear Racing battery powered unit that Pep boys sell for $99. Everyone that I have asked says it's the best, short of spending $300+. Ron

Re: my favorite tool

Here's a pretty cool tool set.

I got them when I bought the FJ62. Appeared to have never been out of the bag with the lug wrench.

Re: my favorite tool

The Dewalt electric 1/2" impact wrench has 240 ft. pounds of torque. That's kind of marginal for tight lug nut. Even the cheap Craftsman 1/2" air impact has about 350 ft. pounds of torque and will break most lugs loose. The In-Rand air tools get you on up to 650 ft. pounds and on up depending on how much you are willing to spend.

Going back to the Dewalt electric, keep in mind that it is a 7.5 amp tool. 7.5 amps X 120 volts= 900 watts. The stock inverter in the FJ is 400 watts and not enough to run your electric impact wrench.
