Before you exchanged it, I was going to ask if it had another air flow adjustment (screw) on it other than the dial. My cheapies from Harbor Freight do.
I've been tempted to post my 2cents about Craftsman products and their lack of quality nowadays. I guess this is as good of a time as any. Has anybody else noticed that Craftsman isn't what it used to be. Growing up, my father had Craftman hand tools and swore by them due to the guarantee. Of course, I used and abused many of his tools growing up. Then, when I was on my own and could afford my own tools, I first looked to purchase Craftsman and was dissappointed in the quality. Now, nearly all decent value-priced tool brands have good lifetime warranties and I have found several lesser expensive brands that surpass Craftsman's current quality.

Hopefully you already realize you are not supposed to tighten lug nuts w/ an impact wrench. You are just asking to break the studs off. Last thing you need is to be on the trail and not be able to get the wheel off or start breaking studs because you wanted to save a couple of minutes putting the tire back on at home.

of course. i generally use an impact to remove tires and large bolts. when i put them back on i always start them by hand, then if i have a lot of thread, use the impact at low speeds, but i snug them up and tighten with my trusty torque wrench.

I had the same problem, I just cranked the regulator up to max and the hammer mechinism just pounded away but finally broke the lug free! Just had the Wheels rotated at the dealer. I'm so friggin pissed I'm takin the rig back in the A.M and raisin Hell! I'm gonna demand the GM to unloosen one of the Lugs with the stock wrench. I Tried, and I'm 250lbs and this is why I spent a hour diggin out the compressor and impact!
I'm sure if you took a pole about experiences at tire shops, dealers, etc. who worked on your tires/wheels, you're find 75% on the time, the lugs are either too loose or so tight you think you'll twist off the studs.
