Re: Preview of January Consumer Reports' FJ Cruiser coverage
CR can say whatever it wants - I love my FJ! How about we start rating thise so-called raters and reviewers; and we give CR -U (Unclassified) with 100points

Re: Preview of January Consumer Reports' FJ Cruiser coverage
I shopped the RDX and MDX and bought the FJ over both of them even though I have another Acura already in the garage. RDX can't too and gets crappy fuel economy just like my FJ! They gave up a touch screen nav to go with voice and that stupid knob. It was an easy choice after driving it. FJ is actually more fun to drive and I saved a ton of $$$ that I can use to personalize my FJ. RDX's just sit on the lots. It is like another RL.
Re: Preview of January Consumer Reports' FJ Cruiser coverage
I can't say I agree with Vik's outlook or his wife's. Apples and Oranges folks. As a former owner of a Mini Cooper S and an Evo VIII, I might argue I appreciate handling and acceleration as much or more so than any 3 series driver, M's included.
The FJ, IMO, is exceptionally well suited to its purpose.
Driving it on the interstate, in traffic, on the way to the shopping mall obviously wasnt what it was made for, and thus cannot be judged soley in that context.
For the record my wife drove a Jeep Wrangler for many years, and she absolutely loves my new FJ. She's qualified enough to draw relative comparisons, specifically with regard to performance, handling, braking, and off road ability (oranges to oranges). Some of the jeeps admitted strenghts over the FJ was its shorter wheelbase, and improved turning radius come to mind. :-)
Re: Preview of January Consumer Reports' FJ Cruiser coverage
This may be an apples to oranges comparison, but I've found the FJ handles much worse than other toyota vehicles. My mother drives whatever the Lexus version of the Landcruiser is and it handles much better. I drove a '91 FJ80 with a shoddy steering pump and I still thought I could maneuver more easily than in the FJ. I have found as I get used to the FJ it seems to handle better though. Maybe I'm just adapting. As far as CR, I have found consumer reports to give fairly unbiased opinions as a general rule, but, as mentioned previously, offroad capability was not factored into this test.
