Not closed minded about the H3, perhaps I should expalin what I meant.
Not to hijack a thread...
There are people out there that want to alter the look of the FJ to make it look better in their eyes, 22" chrome wheels, low profile tires, the butt ugly chrome trim panels around the windows and rockers, grille inserts, etc. Thats what you would normally see on H3's and Tahoes, etc., that have been "accessorized". I'm not intending to bash other cars, just the tacky accessories being made for some of them. Everyone has the right to do what they want with their vehicle. I just think the FJ should be kept close to its original design as possible and its accessories should compliment the FJ not take away from it.
I guess I more of a purist when it comes to design of an automobile. I just don't like accessories that are not well thought out to work with the lines and styling of a vehicle.

There is a lot to be said for a PURIST. The saying of "To each his own" always comes to mind.
I too look at some vehicles that have been altered and wonder what the owner was thinking, then just appreciate the fact that I don't share their tastes in accessories.
Your own hometown newspaper write their columns in a bias view just like the CR review.
If you have more than one local paper, or you subscribe to any magazines you have your favorites which you would read to justify your own utopia.

What's nice about this forum is that you can get some; objective stats, and opinions from many different members. Then you can sort them out to see what you value. CR and my local paper want to make that decision for me. I don't need any mag. or paper telling me what my utopian way of living needs to be.

Hybrid1 I agree fully. This goes for your previous post as well. CR is infamous for not realizing for what a product is designed and marketed.
I wouldn't expect the fj to do well with most of the " ranking " awards geared for consumers.....the visibility thing is a justified b1tch and all the other things said in this thread will doom it's chances for awards.
OK by me.
Consumer reports does not take money from strangers.
They are as objective as they can be.
And I tend to disagree with them.
I suppose it is difficult to be "objective" about subjective standards and tastes.
As far as their rating on the FJ. I am, yet again, forced to disagree with them. I can only speak to the comparison to the new Xterra. It was just as noisy if not more so. When it comes to driving around town the suspension of the FJ felt nicer to me than the jerky, jarrier Xterra on bumpy roads. Ultimately I felt there was little difference in the mechanics around town. The three things I liked better about the Xterra was the seat comfort level for a long drive (they felt softer and cushier to my buttox), the cubby holes - there was a lot more storage potential in the Xterra, and the rear seats folded flat. OH if your passengers like bigger windows - the rear windows were bigger. Alright, one more thing. It was waaaay cheaper - they were trying to compete with the FJ and the FJ had me sold almost 1 year before it came out. They offered a fully loaded Xterra for 26,000 ish. I went with the FJ after one test drive on a late March day. It was one of the best days o me life. Oh well. I'll save money next time.
Anybody that rates the Liberty higher is on crack. I found out about the FJ by accident all because of the Liberty.
I heard that the Liberty was being offered with a diesel so I went to check one out. I never really liked the Liberty but I thought the diesel would win me over. Anyway, I never even drove it. Sitting in it was enough for me to know what a cheaply made POS it is.
So on my way back home I thought I'd see what a new 4 runner was going for. I saw the FJ on a pedestal at the stealership and was sold. Besides, it turned out the 4 Runner was more than I thought they'd be anyway.
I'm very happy with the FJ. Like the previous poster, CU does have a few valid points. The FJ also has some formidable competion - namely the Xterra. My brother has an X and I really like it - especially because it's a lot easier to load a child in and out of.
Anyway, I agree with most everyone else. If we listened to CU we'd all be driving beige Camrys.
