Toyota Reports Record U.S. May 2007 Sales

Our friends over at TundraTalk.net (a sister site) posted some news about Toyota sales figures. Here is a copy of the post.

TORRANCE, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported all-time best-ever sales of 269,023 vehicles for the month, an increase of 9.7 percent over May 2006. The former all-time best-ever record was 242,675 units in March 2007.

"As fuel prices and consumer confidence rose, the industry saw a move to passenger cars, with retail business posting sharp gains over a very challenging April," said Jim Lentz, TMS executive vice president. "Despite the industry's shift toward passenger cars, Toyota's all-new Toyota Tundra hit an all-time high in May. As for hybrids, the market's appetite continues unabated, with Toyota Prius also establishing an all-time record."

The Toyota Division posted all-time best-ever sales of 237,176, up 10.9 percent over last May. The Lexus Division reported best-ever May sales of 31,847 units, an increase of 2.1 percent.

Re: Toyota Reports Record U.S. May 2007 Sales

"Toyota's FJ Cruiser reported May sales of 4,639 units." I like those numbers...the last thing I want is seeing 50,000 FJ Cruisers on the road.

I Know ...I't's kind of funny, I have never seen an FJ Commercial since the start. I have seen a Toyota one with abunch of vehicles including the FJ in the background, but never an FJ one Toyota must be happy with the sales of the FJ units, otherwise they would be marketing it on TV

It was the same way with the Toyota Prius in the beginning, then you start seeing a few commercials now and then when sales fall off a bit.

Wink Re: Toyota Reports Record U.S. May 2007 Sales

I live in a small town (right outside of Phoenix, so it's probably more of a suburban community.....)....Anyway, I bought my FJ back back in the beginning of April. Since May, almost every other 5 cars I see, it's an FJ. They're everyfriggingwhere now. Even though I should be proud that people are really into this vehicle, I'm a little annoyed.....everyone wants to be like us....and I want to be like you guys!

150,000 / ~50,000 a year = 3 years. hmmmm
See, now, I've always believed the FJ would be a short lived thing (as it seems with a lot of vehicles these days) since what Toyota really wants is to boost its Land Cruiser line (using the FJ as a step in that direction). Just my crazy theory tho.
