Interesting thread, posts and comments. It's very informative to see/hear others opinions regarding "membership". While being a member of a number of forums, I've only been a supporting member one time. The forum offered a email address/account with membership and that was/is something I can use. As a sys admin I have a number of email accounts/addresses, but it's nice to have one that is not business related or one of the "free" ones that you can't use to join a forum (sort of catch-22). Unfortunately I let that membership expire and never go back to the forum, because of the ruling class members (to be blunt). Oddly enough it wasn't the "supporting members" actually, but the "guru members" and the "pack mentality" of the primary group (groupies) of more active members. It's the "elitist", but it wasn't related to supporting versus non-supporting. IMHO that's the biggest danger for this forum, not supporting memberships.. Ron

I'd like to know what exactly "Less Advertising" means? As a Supporting Vendor of this site I know that we pay to have our banner being diplayed through this forum. So what exactly does "Less Advertising" mean?
I've said this before on this site and I'll say it again. This site is a business, and the owners of it should be allowed to make a profit off of it, no matter how big or small that may be. It is costly to run a site like this, and believe me, I have real world, first hand experience with this.
I know exactly what the company I work for pays to advertise on this site and we are greatful from the business we gain from it. However, if less members are now going to start seeing our ad, this gives cause for concern.
If "Less Advertising" means that all the Google Ads go away, then that's perfectly fine with me. I just hope it doesn't mean that Supporting Members are going to stop seeing our ad.
If one of the Admins could address this for me it would be much appreciated.
I do appreciate the fact that I have been grandfathered in with a Lifetime Supporting Member status though.
Thanks

Maybe it's just the wording/lable itself "supporting"
that, as Terahex has stated, I mean, I feel I have
"supported" this site by trying to help others where
and when I can...
I know I know, this is not a free site or a democracy,
but how about a wording change, or just a symbol as
I have seen on other sites (ie: star, dollar sign, etc.)...
I remember a ways back when things like this were
discused, the main idea in the forum, was not to list
or lable someone as a "better" memebr in any way,
sort of like getting rid of the "rep" system I guess...
Just expressing my opinion, carry on with the funds...

I guess my whole issue comes down to having a special label of "Supporting Member". .... I think everyone who had contributed in a positive way to the forum is a supporting member. It is these posts and information from the members that have saved us money. .... ... I know that I have 2 choices. I am not expecting the forum to change because of anything posted here. I will attempt to refrain from chocking up this thread with any more negative posts. Hopefully people have heard my comments and concerns.
Well for the record I did not buy because all I do here is read the post that I want to read and post when I feel like it. I do not need an avatar, a signature, little smiley faces, photo posting and certainly not a post count so I am willing to give it all up to save you even more money now that you know why I did not buy one. Just the information please.
Chris,
This will be my last post to you on the subject. It is clear to me that you just can't let it go. I'm sure it feels nice to be able to openly criticize this site and remain here and gain knowledge for free. However, it is the supporting vendors and supporting members on this site who have paid money that even allow us to maintain this site that you see fit to "read and post" when you feel like it for free.

Ok Ekool:
I have the lifetime membership subscription ordered. Is it setup once the payment is accepted? One question on the stickers. I have a vinyl cutter and wondering if the .eps, .ai or .bmp files will also be made available for somebody like me that wants to cut my own sticker?
Thanks in advance:
Ziggy
We don't have anything available yet but once we post the mockups you should be able to use those in some way

Your real world experience is not real world here in this case now is it? They are not a large organization and are probably not using the equipment that large organizations use.
This brings up a good point I was curious about anyway. Is there somewhere on this site where I could find information on the equipment that is running this site? Is it running in a data center on more than one power grid with two weeks reserve deisel for a generator on standby with three drops into the Internet no more than one hop away? If so, can the owners of the site actually go and physically touch the server? Is it in their own locked cage at OneWilshire or equivelant? Hmmm I'd like to know. Seriously folks, I would really like to know. I am in the computer field and I get off on this stuff....
We maintain a couple of racks at an ISP in New Mexico. I used to be able to "touch them" but I don't get into New Mexico very often now a days. However I do have local friends who do the hands on work for me if I need it plus the ISP is usually able to help. They have a generator that runs off CNG to cover power outages but we've never needed it for more then a couple of hours.

As a supporting vendor, you are seeing exactly the same ads that supporting members see. The ad layout is identical. So in total, you should be seeing 2 ads.

I think this boils down to the fact that no matter what, you can't please everyone. If we made it "premium member" then people would complain that we are saying that these members are "more important" then the other members. Ultimately, everyone is going to take offense or perhaps think that there is a better alternative. We eventually have to make a decision and pick something and "Supporting Member" sounds just as good as anything else to me.
A cross between quasimoto and the elephant man..... But only the good parts!!!!!
Hello chewey46 it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?
