Have to say I',m at least a little amused/puzzled by the occasional post saying "you knew the windhield's angle when you bought the car, you should just expect this".

.
True to a point,, Between the semi trucks I have driven,, and 100,000s of miles drafting in old air cooled VW bugs,, it took a large projectile to take out the windshield.. You saw the magic rock coming at you before it hit..

With the track record of Toyota and knowing that this FJ windshield was going to lend itself to more abuse they should have used better glass to start with..

I kid you not,, the speck of sand that took my windshield out was smaller than 1/16" in size..

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Dropped off to get #4 since October 2008....

Cracks left to right & 2 top to bottom... The last rock was at least a pea size, the rest was a pinhole that spread.

If you'd like the poll titles changed to what they used to be, I can do that as well...just remind me.
can we add a CHIPPED & PITTED category to the POLL?
Mine has not cracked but I have about 8 chips so far and its totally pitted as if I lived in Arizona or something...

7800 miles!!

I need to change my vote to YES!

I'm sitting in my office watching my windshield be replaced as I type. Really expensive!
Luckily, I only have to pay my $250 deductible. I just changed my comp. deductible to $0 for fear this will not be the last time. I'm not sure how it cracked. I was doing some very easy beach driving, but other than that never off road and never saw anything hit the window. Oh well. I still love my FJ.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

First the sound when it hit. Just a little "tink",,, then the spot where the SAND hit the mark it left in the glass looks about the size of a large course sized pepper out of a pepper mill..

I can assure you,, that was a very small ,,,,rock..

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Finally I called into the insurance company to have
the wifes FJ's window fixed, they want to try to
seal it first, but this thing is the size of a quarter &
and comes with a 5" crack too, and I swear it is
almost through the window to the inside, just deep...

They made me an appointment with safelite glass &
if they can't fix it, they will install a new windshield
at the cost of my deductible of $50... ...

I am glad I reduced the comprehensive deductible on
our coverage from $500 to $50 a year or so ago, & it
only cost $26 more a year for the change...

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

The poll could be skewed. I had previously voted that my windshield was fine. Since then I've had 3 small chips and now a rock has done a job on my windshield and it needs to be replaced.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I'm just short of 20k on my 2008. Today I got three rock chips repaired on my windshield. They were small, but I decided to get them done before I head out for Colorado tomorrow. I put 2,700 miles on my FJ last summer going to the Summit without any rock chip damage. My main source of chips is locally. Heard a loud bang when driving to Seattle a couple weeks ago and was sure I was going to get a broken windshield. Luckily I just got a small chip at the top of my windshield. Now paint chips on my hood are another story. More and more keep showing up. Anyway, so far so good with the windshield chips.
