Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I took my Trail Teams edition off-roading ONE single time, on a dirt road off Route 66 in CA. Within 5 minutes of leaving the highway, I had a large rock crack all across the passenger side.

I have now moved back to MI, I am reluctant to pay to have it fixed b/c it will probably break again!

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Having a crack in the windshield can be more than just a cosmetic disturbance.
Its a violaion of traffic laws to dive with a cracked windshield...you could be issued a summons!

but most importantly..
The ability to see clearly whilst driving a motor vehicle is a major concern!

Its bad enough that the FJ has blind spots due to the design of the vehicle..and the cracked windshield just adds to dilemma.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I have a small star from a drive to Tennessee on the top right hand passenger's side windshield. It pissed my Dad and I off extremely, but I guess time will tell if it will get any bigger.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Be careful if you replace it. I had mine replaced by Safelight. They came to the house. Put a dent and chips in the roof headliner. Almost $900.00 worth of damage. They are willing to pay to get it fixed. I am reluctant as they need to remove my rack and repaint the entire roof. I am scared I will open up Pandoras box. Probably going to just live with it.

SUCKS!!!

I have a long crack on my windshield along the driver's side, also some chips from rocks here and there... Would thicker glass help? I'm guessing not..

Only once so far... but I always cringe hearing something hit it on the highway-Just glad I live in FL, insurance covers it without a deductible

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I am sitting in a Safelite Glass shop as I write this getting my windsheild replaced. Had small chip on passengers side that never grew. This summer another rock chip in driver's side near bottom edge that kept migrating all over the wiendhield. While in the mts of colorado at 12 degrees the defroster finished it off while trying to defrost a badly iced glass.

This is after 18 months of ownership. I sure hope this new unit lasts longer!

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

My windshield has been broken 3 times, all via rocks flying out of passing construction dump trucks. The third time this happened, I decided that as much as I like this vehicle that it would be my first, and last, FJ. Being driving 40+ years and never gone through anything like this. It is a helpless feeling that is most unpleasant when I see small rocks flying right the windshield, having no way to avoid. Not sure there is anything that Toyota could do to lessen this problem. Oh well.
