Once I told my wife to steer clear of all construction vehicles,
by switching lanes, passing, or going much slower, and keeping
a distance from them, she has not had any more hits on her
windshield...
Yes, the angle of the glass is almost vertical so it will be taking
more of an impact(pressure) from a hit of a rock than say that
of a honda civic or any other vehicle with a very good angle on
the windshield, which is why the FJ seems to break more easily
then other vehicles...
I wouldn't trade my Fj for anything, I love the style and look,
which includes the flat vertical windshield !... well, except a new
FJ with a square type soft top and solid front axle (like they still
produce on the land cruiser 70 series in Australia)...
I am on my second chip in my front windshield. I have no problem with the second, a rock came off a construction vehicle. It is the first chip that I still can not believe. Although it is very small,I have a chip made by an insect. If I only had video fotage of the event.
Well I dont have any cracks or chips in my 07 with 65000 mi. but I live on the beach and my windshield is pitted bad! sand blasted I guess. Its even hard to see out of if the sun is low and there is a glare. Little micro pits.
Chips and cracks happen. I had a Ford Explore Sport 4x4 for 11 years and I went through three windshields..... It's all about not following too closely......

26000 on mine and two chips. But mine does have tons of sandblast type chips which when driving in sun blinds you. Another Toyota Great not to say anything about that non functional FJcrapper Radio.

I replace one windshield a year for my FJC! During the winter here in CO we take a great deal of small rocks into the windshield. I have never had to replace my windshield for my Suburban, but replace my FJ Cruiser windshield every spring.
Living in the New Orleans area, I have to deal with there being tons of debris on every road every minute of every day. I got a chip in my window the first month we bought our FJ back in 2007. That chip is now a foot long crack accompanied by 5 other very large chips in my windshield. I don't want to replace it because I know it will be broken again within the month. Oh well, it's NOLA. With broken windows come bribeable inspection sticker workers. It costs me an extra $10.00 every year, but I guess that beets having my window replaced every 3 months.
