My WS status has changed. I have a small circular crack just under the middle wiper. I do not think it will spread, but with the roads around here, it won't be long.
My windshield just got nailed today by what looked to be a piece of asphalt, the windshield now has about a 3 inch round crack. Im just glad it didn't get the hood or grill.
I have read all the post about broken windshields on this forum, but I dont think any glass would have held up to the impact in this situation.
All this time I have felt bad for you folks with the WS problems. I have just over 500 miles and I was riding up I95 North otw to work in the middle lane. I get hit by a rock tiny little divot between 2nd and 3rd wipers. I keep driving up the road and just watch the crack grow its is now about 5 inches in length but starting to make a U-Turn. I had a Jeep CJ-7 and that had a flat WS. I never the entire time I owned it, had this happen. I had plenty of little stars, but none that blew out to a full fledge crack. Three damn wiper blades and it hits between them.

I have 30,000 miles on my FJ already and have a crack about 7 inches long and atleast 4 or 5 other stars. I have full glass coverage but am waiting to replace for fear that the windshield will just become chipped again. The windshield design is definitely a flaw in the design.
How can we change out original vote for this survey? I voted no crack initially, but have replaced the original windshield in January. Today the second windshield cracked. Thank you Toyota!!!
I actually called Toyota to complain a second time. The first time the representative knew nothing about cracked windshields. This time they had a story that the FJ windshield design lends itself to be more prone to rock chips, but that is the risk the buyer takes. There is no manufacturing or design flaws and therefore Toyota is not doing anything about it. I acted a bit like a smartass and asked how many windshields will I need to go through before Toyota feels there might be a design flaw but she didn't answer the question. Instead she said she would write it up and if toyota decided to do something I would be notified. I won't hold my breath.
I really feel that there's a design flaw in the sense that Toyots knew that a flat windshield design was more prone to cracks but didn't require the windshield specs to be of higher grade to compensate for the design.
So we end up with a normal piece of glasss that would otherwise be fine, but because of the shape and angle is more likely to crack. My insurance company will pick up the tab and said they won't raise my rates this time, but a third claim will raise my rates. I'm not about to eat $1500, so I'll let insurance cover it. I will say that the first windshield replacement went horribly wrong with a big leak and scratches and a ding. So these cracks end up doing more damage than just a crack in a windshield.
I really hope I don't go through the 3rd windshield in the next 3 months. That would be just ridiculous.
I will NEVER recommend the FJ or another Toyota product ever again. All this talk about Toyota quality is BS.
I feel your pain. I also have my second window cracked, chipped and pitted after only 9K miles total on the truck. My dealer finally admitted yesterday when I went in for an oil change that there was a problem with them. What can we do..Just whine a lot I guess..If this was not a problem I would have a two FJ family. Now I have to find another rig for my girlfriend so our insurance doesn't go out the "WINDOW"...That really sucks...
Had it a month and just got a chip from a fricking truck that passed me then cut me off. It was too late in the evening to have the chip repaired so I parked it in my garage. Came out the next morning and it was cracked out three inches from the chip. By the time it was all said and done I'm $1545 lighter in the pocket. Don't really want to make a claim with my insurance co. My deduct is only $100 but I don't want the hit..
Love the truck but hate the windsheild and fuel fill problem.
Just got my FJ this week, so far no windshield dings, divots, cracks or breaks...but I know it will happen. I knew that when I saw the design...
I have had 2 Jeep Wranglers in the past that both were notorious for catching rocks and road debris because of the flat, non-aerodynamic front end design...I just expect to pay that price for the look and function of the vehicles...
