i have a question about these cracked windows, is this happening mostly off road? or is this on rocky streets or something? I'm just curious if these cracks are happening in places where you would expect them to happen (ie: rocky places)
Mine happened on I95 major highway here on the east coast. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Big rigs and dump trucks.

I was contacted by packman73 in regards to the FJ Cruiser windshields. This is always a problem on vehicles with a more vertical windshield and it is definitely an application that we can and will produce. What we would like to do is put together a group buy of 10 windows to justify the production of the mold. lead time will be approx. 3 weeks for mold and window production. Please email me at jim.dunham@percyshp.com or call me at 573-346-4409 ext 17

note to admin: if we can get this group buy we would be willing to become a sponsor of this site.
What about D.O.T appproval for this?

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Maybe I was extremely fortunate but I had a CJ-7 that I put over 100k miles on and never once did I have to replace the windshield. I had my share of chips but no cracks. I am not sold on the fact that because it is a verticle WS it will just happen. What about the quality of the glass or anything to do with the glass itself.

I think it will be near impossible to stay away from them, the pebble that hit my WS was nothing, it was kicked up by a semi in the lane to the right of me. I now have an 8 inch crack in the WS, from a pebble. This is my only complaint about the vehicle. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck and if I had a choice to do it again.. I would still buy it.

my chip was done by a pebble that a SUV kicked up off the road. So dont drive at any high way speeds and you should be less likely to not crack your windshield.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I'd be in for the group buy depending on the price of course. My windshield was chipped in 3 spots in one shot on I-70 on my way out to Colorado. Never mind the fact that the rocks were thrown from an auto glass repair van...

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Last weekend I took the FJ on her 1st road trip to Folly Beach. On the way down I got my 1st star in the ws. So far it has not gotten any larger, but with SC summer heat who knows. More surprising then that was the amount of bugs I can kill. “Toyota FJ, exterminator for hire.”

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I am trying to make sense of the data. What I think we know.

There are ~10600 members of this forum. 341 members report having at least one broken windshield. I'm not sure what assumptions to make around people that don't participate anymore or don't like to answer surveys, but just for arguements sake, cut the 10600 in half. That would imply that 341 out 5300 people have had a broken windshield, or 6%.

6% doesn't seem like an excessive number for a vertical windshield.

In a pole I set up awhile back (If I divided the number of people reporting a broken windshield divided by the number viewing, I got 4.5%. Same order of magnitude so it seems to imply the same conclusion. Not sure what to make of it. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I voted no on a broken windshield a month or so ago, just got my first crack 30 minutes ago . It's small but will have to be fixed so it does not spread. There for the pole is not correct because i can not change my vote.
