Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I am hesitant to report that mine is not chipped, cracked, or broken,... yet. I think by posting this I'll get a rock shortly. Just my luck, Murphy is alive and well!

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

A big hello to my new buds on this forum.
This is post #1.
Just leased a Voodoo Blue FJ yesterday.
Drove my brand new baby home from a Tampa stealership yesterday and had to wash off the "love bugs".
Those little critters only swarm twice a year, May and around September, and May is usually the worst.
Anyway after washing off the remains from my interstate slaughter I noticed a pencil tip sized chip in the windshield around driver side eyeball level of course.
To be honest I don't know if it happened on the drive home or not.
Until I saw this thread I thought it was just another typical bout of rotten luck.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Less than 4000 miles on it and I already have two rock dings, one of which has a runner across the bottom of the windshield from the driver's side to the passenger side. In all fairness, though, I've never had a new windshield stay new on any Nevada road in the Springtime due to the state's habit of using sand and gravel on the roadways for traction during snowstorms.

[quote=Bostonian1976;202975]Well, after the whole merged-thread fiasco of 2006, I feel the need to appease some members with a new windshield thread. I understand it's important to show Toyota that this is indeed a design flaw, and I realize that a lot of people are relying on this data.

And please...don't ask me to merge this with anything else

Share your windshield stories here. If you'd like the poll titles changed to what they used to be, I can do that as well...just remind me.

Thanks.

Former thread here sans poll (for reference to comments)

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Mine is now cracked after 11 months of ownership. I was on a raod trip last week...dont recall hearing anyhting and then I saw the crack by the wiper. I watched in propogate over about 6 inches over the last week. I guess I'll be calling the dealer on Monday. I personally dont plan to just let them tell me sorry charlie you're on your own. I am going to try to get it replaced thru Toyota. This is an obvious problem. Has anyone gone thru their dealership and had it warrantied?

Mine was but I think the only reason the dealer covered it was the crack happened when they had my FJ. I fought with them for about a half hour over why I am not paying for it since they had the car when the crack happened. Then at 2500 miles it did it again... on my time. I have not even had my first oil change and have had 2 windshields break. This second I am just leaving it broken as I do not see the point in spending the money to get it fixed only to have it chip and crack again.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Even though in Florida, mine would be replaced for free, I am still thinking about just leaving it for a while to see if anything shakes out with Toyota (not holding breath).

Incidentally, mine is cracked on the driver's side from the very bottom by the wiper and then curves to the left. I've read this exact same pattern on here alot...too many times for it to be from rocks for it to happen in the exact same fashion.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Had a small rock chip about the size of the ball on a ball point pen in front of the inspection sticker. When the dealer went to scrape the sticker off the tiny chip spread into a crack down to the bottom of the glass and 2" up and 3" over. Now I need a new windshield.
