Got a small high velocity bullseye rock chip 2 weeks after driving off the showroom floor. Had it fixed by Safelite - insurance fully covered! Very happy with the "fix".
As of this week, I will be on my THIRD windshield. I've had my FJ for a little over a year and 25K miles. Never had a star in other windshield on any other vehicle. Current windshield (#2) has 3 stars, one of which cracked and spread all the way across this morning.
On the 3 stars, 2 were merely bugs hitting my windshield...but when they hit sounded like someone was shooting rocks out of cannons at my windshield. I was only going 40 mph too.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond
The windshield on the FJ looks to be much more "pebble/rock proof" than my TJ. Before I traded it for the FJ I was considering on trying for bulk pricing on Jeep windshields Ron

Just called and lowered my deductable.. I thought the $250 replacement cost of a Jeep windshield was high, but these are much higher. Ron

I have several pits and had two repairs on mine since new in 2006. Also had to have the driver side A Pillar panel replaced from a stone hit. Dented it pretty bad. That piece from the dealer is approx 179.00. I still have it for a trophy. Next repair I have to have done is the passenger fender. that windstorm we just had in the Sacramento Valley blew something into my passenger front fender. Hopefully I will have a fender to decorate my garage wall with soon.
I have repaired 4 chips in 65,000 miles of driving with the kits from the autoparts store, so far none have spread. These windshields chip easy, as does the paint. I drive a lot on the highway and this is the first vehicle that I have had more than one chip in a windshield (other vehicles have been ford or chevy pickups that I have driven 150K-200K miles in (I drive about 40K miles a year). The windshield has so far been the only weak area of my FJ.
