Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

No more good windshield story's. On my way to Chicago on Saturday I was just cominig into St. Louis and had a car in front of me kick up a rock SMACK!!! right in to my windshield ...right in the center.

Called my insurance company first thing Monday , they said if it was repairable it would be no money out of my pocket, but if it needed to be replaced I would need to pay my $500.00 deductable

My insurance company is AWESOME!! they set everything up for me so I could get it fixed while I was here in Chicago.

The guy came today to see if it could just be repaired or if it would need to be replaced.

I prayed and I waited hoping it could just be repaired.

The guy showed up and said that was a pretty good size rock and it hit your windshield pretty hard . You're lucky it didn't bust it, but it's only thru the first part of the glass so I can repair it for you. it will take me about 20 minutes and it will be good as new.

...and I change my policy to a lower deductable, starting today.
J

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

OK, so I checked with Safelite on replacement. They would have to order the top moulding from the dealer (they couldn't quote me a price until I gave them my VIN) but I was quoted $270 for the windsheild alone -- aftermarket, green-tinted. Not as bad as I thought......

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I had a star (which I had patched) within the first 200 miles of owning my FJ. Got another large chip but it was behind the gauge cluster so I didn't notice it until it spread, crack runs from edge to edge across half my windshield. Got another star since then but didn't bother to fix it as I'll probably get the whole thing replaced soon.

There are numerous, numerous small pits in the windshield. It looks like the windshield of a 100,000 mile car.

6,900 miles on my FJ right now.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

Well, I finally got whacked a good one! About two weeks ago I took a hit on the lower portion drivers side. At the time I didn't see any dimple or marks (the windshield was pretty dirt from winter driving). However, the following week, the crack started to emerge from where the rock hit. That crack took about three days and crawled across the entire windshield to the passenger side.

Insurance to repair. My agent indicated that in 2007, the windshields for the FJ had about a 6 month back order from Safelite. I hope it doesn't take that long now!

I was curious about cost so I called Safelite. The windsheilds are readily available. However, they will have to order the top windsheild molding from the dealer.

No cracks, put plenty of Chips!! About 3 or 4 noticeable ones.

Lots of other small chips all over.
