Does the hood deflector help deflect / blow off flying rocks and bugs?
I had one, took it off. I think it just slightly changes the pressure differential curve of the air as it passes over the windshield, and so helps SOME stuff miss the glass.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

b.withoutremorse, on your estimate/invoice/bill/receipt/etc. it should list the parts you paid for.

For example, besides the glass and labor, there may be a part listed, such as 'OEM molding". This may refer to the white trim piece that goes across the top of the windshield. This Toyota piece is expensive(approx. $300-$400) and is often hard to remove without damage because of the windshield/trim adhesive helping to hold it and the windshield.

It's a good idea to always get a written estimate, even if you plan on getting the work done at the shop. If some part is added later, have it explained in writing, at minimum, on the final bill.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

They replace the top and side body moldings around the windshield as needed. I think the top one always gets destroyed taking the old windshield out.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

I was behind hind a semi yesterday that threw up a big chuck of crap off the road. We were doing 65 and it hit hard. Thought for sure it would have cracked the windshield but don't see anything yet.

Re: New Windshield Poll - Please Respond

We have only had ours about 2 months and already there is a foot long crack starting by the drivers side wiper.

What are the typical charges to get this fixed? And do you go through the insurance company or what? Sorry I don't feel like reading 51 pages about a windshield, so if someone could just respond that would be awesome.

Had the FJ for over 2 years and never even had a one crack!
2 days short of 2 years and I finally join the "Cracked windshield club"

Highway driving at night in the rain, didn't hear anything hit it, but when I arrived there was an 8" crack on drivers side, straight down from the top. Stress crack I guess. Grown to 14" now.

Looking forward to all the fun getting it fixed this coming weekend.

If it was caused by a rock (debris) then you have to go through your insurance co. If it was not caused by debris, and you can prove it, then you might have a case with Toyota doing it under warranty.

Typical charge is whatever your deductible is from your insurance carrier, unless you specifically have windshield protection written into your policy.
