Re: Windshield Damage Poll

I had my FJ Cruiser 1 week before my first Ding! Now I have two cracks that take the windshield over. I refuse to buy a windshield. Iwas minding my own bussiness going done the 405 FWY in Southern California when they happened. I called Toyota Customer Service they said if they get enogh complaints there will be a recall. So keep calling and they might modify them or replace them> the number to call is in your manual that you keep in your glove box. Im thinking class action suit and I have threatened them with it. I have a Toyota Rep. coming out to meet me at the dealership to investigate.

Just Changed AAA Comprehensive

As soon as I got my first windshield ding and saw this forum I lowered my comprehensive to $50 and it only cost me $5 a year. I also lowered my collision deductible from $500 to $150 and it cost me only $160 a year. I have been with AAA quite a while and have a clean record and am located in Northern California ... I suggest anyone with an FJ to do the same

Re: Windshield Damage Poll

10,676 miles, I got my 1st rock chip from an 18 wheeler just outside Las Cruces, NM. while I was on vacation there last week. I still have no complaints about my FJ!

Re: Windshield Damage Poll

I've been hit several times on the highway with no damage. I even got peppered at a rural intersection when some J.O. in an El Camino cut the corner and shot gravel across my windshield! Still nada, no damage! But today on the way home from work cruisin' smoothly down HWY 99, contemplating my evening freedom and an ice cold beverage when..........WHACK!!
My Cherry Got Popped! A nice big X low on the drivers side.
2700 mi.

Re: Windshield Damage Poll

Ok folks I have some information that may be helpful for the windshield club.

I had a crack on the lower left corner that curved up about 8 inches to the right.

The top white moulding strip is glued to the windshield. It is not coming off without damage. It must be replaced. Make sure you tell your Glass repair facility to order the moulding with the windshield.

My windshield was backordered for 2 months. The dealer said the moulding was not needed. Do not believe them!

Safelite glass did a great job with mine. They stayed on the dealer until all my parts were in.

Good luck folks!

Re: Windshield Damage Poll

I was out wheeling with a friend yesterday and a wasp flew in the truck. He hit the wasp with the back of his hand on the inside windshield and I now have a 12 inch star pattern on the passenger side. How fragile are these things! I'm afraid to slam the door now in case the whole thing pops out!
Anybody know if there are any problems replacing the windshield? An earlier thread said they were backordered.

Re: Windshield Damage Poll

Remember people, bullseye cracks can be fixed without having to replace the windshield. Make sure you fix a bullseye crack the moment you see it. If it spreads too much, it can't be fixed. A guy I know does it for about $50, using some sort of compound that fills in the crack and dries perfectly clear. If it ever breaks in the same spot, he pays the cost to replace the windshield.
