THE front windshield is yours broken yet?

Ok so i have my fj for about 5 days now and guess what.........YEAH the windshield is broken!@#$%^&* Is Toyota glass thiner or is the FJ's windshield just real flat? - Doesent deflect any thing.

Ok I got it replaced for about $1500.00 thank goodness for insurance. It ended up costing me $100.00. And one week later a new crack in the new windshield!!@#$%^&* Another interesting fact is that they have to replace the top white part.

Re: THE front windshield is yours broken yet?

I once rented a 4runner. Said no to the insurance, figuring I will just use my own if anything happens. 15mins on the freeway and rock chip. Went to lunch and the heat made the crack worse. Was pissed of thinking toyota glass was thinner. Thinner I don't know but the hummer guys have a big problem with this because the windshield is not angle and takes the impact head on instead of deflecting the rock. I am curious to see if this will be a big problem for us FJ'ers. I am having the diamond fusion coating added to my windshield this week. I hope it works!

Here's my post from earlier this week
my new Fj with diamond fusion windshield

Let us know how much it costs to replace the windshield.

It has more to do with the flatness of the window than anything else.It seems to be a real prob in Co. I would get the windshild coverage

Don't Waste Your money on the Diamond Fusion!!!!!!!!
a co-worker friend just picked up his new 06 Rav with the $800.00 Diamond Fusion coating (supposed to be Fantastic for preventing glass cracks) anyway on day 3 he got a small rock smack in the middle and it spread instantly!!
It's covered of course but now he thinks he should have just kept his glass coverage on his insurance! - would have been much cheaper in the long run!

I agree... $60/yr for glass coverage added to insurance here in Colorado. Seems like a pretty good trade off to me. In my case, I can replace a LOT of windshields for the cost of the fusion process.

Re: THE front windshield is yours broken yet?

Yeah. Buying windshield coverage is definitely cheaper. They are charging me $500 and not $800 for the DF. I was wondering the difference in the purported convenience of having diamond fusion. Assuming that the FJ will have the same problem of increase incidence of rock chips due to the vertical windshield (like the H2 & H3). "If" DF works and can decrease rock chips. I would be paying for the convenience of not going through the trouble of going to a shop to have my windshield replace. Assuming the FJ will have this problem, this could result in 3-4 trips a year to the auto shop. Plus the diamond fusion is suppose to give other benefits as well. For $10/mn it doesn't sound like as big ofa ripoff as stated in other posts.

Absofreakinlutely. Mine has two large chips in it right now. A flat, nearly vertical piece of glass busts real easy at highway speeds when gravel is thrown up by big trucks.

fortunately, you can get imported replacements for wranglers for $110 bucks installed. I have seen wholesale glass at $65 before as well. the oem glass is $300-$500+, but those places are priced for those with glass coverage on their insurance. I couldn't stomach paying that much for a flat piece of glass.

Re: THE front windshield is yours broken yet?

The genuine Toyota hood mounted bug deflector will be available from Toyota this summer. It's a must have for all FJ owners because of the nearly vertical angle of the windshield.
