Re: What grade gas do you run?

I just ran a tank of 87 and will not do it again. I didn't get any knocks or pings, but it still ran rougher.

Re: What grade gas do you run?

Maybe I'm wasting my money but I really like that Shell V Power 93. I use it in my FJ and my little 4 cylinder Tacoma. The little truck will ping on hills on 87, so I go ahead and put the good stuff in it. It's supposed to have a lot of detergents in it so, I figure the way it's advertised Shell surely isn't going to have regular in the premo pump.

Re: What grade gas do you run?

I own a Vortec supercharged, 98 Ford Cobra that I had to put 87 oct, in once while driving through north FL. Long story short; I filled the car up with regular fuel despite the fact it’s supposed to run 93 at a minimum. I ran the car through the entire tank and never noticed any difference. No knock, no pings, and no lack of performance.

I was later told that the engine could have detonated because of the advanced timing and engine compression, which could have caused sever damage.

Well I have since had to run the car on 87 because of hurricanes in my area putting a shortage on fuel; still without any trouble.

I use regular in my FJ, and 12k miles later “no problems”.
