I run the 87 octane and get from 19-21mpg. However I keep my foot out of it. I do not jerk it around with fast take offs. That makes a big difference.
More of a difference than the premium octane I am sure.
Running 89 except when I head to the mountains when I put in 91. Getting an average of 15 mpg city/highway driving mixed. I think I got nearly 17 mpg when I went to Wyoming/Colorado and Utah last summer. The mpg went in the toilet when I put on the Cooper tires.

started using 91 for the first year of ownership. Now using Costco 87. Haven't noticed a difference in performance or gas mileage. Doesn't matter how I drive it, I get 250-260 miles to the little ugly yellow gas light. Gas prices are a killer these days so I'd need to see some real performance or gas mileage differences to run the higher octane for the $0.20 to $0.30 difference per gallon.
Premium has been 20 cents more per gallon around here for years. Yesterday I noticed it has increased to 30 cents more.. Ron

Just curious on what everyone runs since the label says premium does everyone follow that or do people run different grades of gas.
Thanks for the input!
I have read all the blogs about differences in gas octane, Toyota manufactures their engines to run on the lowest octane available in the country that is manufactured. That means 87 octane, don't care if its a 470 lexus( v8) , or a v 6 tundra, same motor as the FJ. I have both, and have not detected an increase in mileage in upgrading to 91 to 93 octane. Does it run better, absolutly, better mileage, no.
I have to drive to Mexico alot, fill up there on 87 regular at $2.40 gal, mileage is the same, performance, not as good, but if your driving a ton of miles on the slab, who cares how fast you can cruise at 75 mph.
