Re: What grade gas do you run?

in high altitude i use the lowest octane. with that i only buy 100% gas no ethanol. i get 20 to 22 mpg. if i have to use ethanol. my mpg is greatly reduced. I have a 2008 6m. Its very consistant with the right fuel. any fillers and the mileage drops quite a bit for me.

Re: What grade gas do you run?

I bought my FJ in New Jersey and drove it home to Ohio, so I conducted Octane experiments on the drive home. The dealer filled it up with Premium for me(not sure if it was 91 or 93), so after 200 miles(guage around half a tank) I filled up with 87 in hopes of then having a tank full of midgrade(hopefully around 89). Here are the results:

Premium: 21.9mpg
Midgrade: 21.6mpg

The FJ's engine is stock, with the exception of the TRD exhaust. It has the OEM roofrack, and aftermarket brush guard. It is AT and 4x4, I was using the cruise control at 68 as much as possible and I had the A/C on. Pure highway miles obviously...

To see a real difference you are going to have to run a min of 10 tanks of each in a row. This will allow the ECU time to adjust maps and curves to optimize the power potential of each grade of fuel.

Re: What grade gas do you run?

My wife put in 89 for the first tank. The second tank, I bought 91. I didn't notice any difference in the driveability or mileage. So, I just use the cheap stuff. Besides, I don't really trust the gas stations. I picture one huge tank underground that feeds all the pumps, like in a cartoon or something.

You're right Mikey...... at the fourth tank of premium in a row, i feel a real difference....... more horsepower under the gas pedal..... and more miles per galon too
