It was time for a new car, and my old cadillac did not have much time left, so I needed a new car. I had to figure in I needed a vehicle that could take me to the slopes in the winter and the woods when I wanted to go camping. So I looked at a bunch of "capable" vehicles and it led me to.... the jeep. But when i took it for a test drive I did not like it. So I left the jeep dealership and didn't turn back. Went to the Toyota dealership and test drove the FJ. As soon as I got in it I wanted to buy it.
I bought it because when i first saw them in an ad i knew that if they were anything like the FJ40 it would be an insant classic an i wanted to be a part of the orginal frist production plus it takes me where ever i want to go which is always a plus
Boy!...can I relate to gunsnrose.
A friend of mine bought an FJ40, brand new, in 1974. That thing was a tank it could scale rocks, big rocks, I must say, at an idle of the straight 4 cylinder.
When I first saw that Toyota was making a new model, I wanted one. I sold my Honda Accord and bought one. Mine, too can scale rocks, big ones, also!

Why did I buy? toyota quality. I originally wanted a H3 really bad. Still love how they look, but couldn't get myself to spend that much money or TRUST on a GM product. My family has had a sienna van, three camrys and two tundras, all served them very well. I had a honda accord before my FJ. There is something to say about the reliability(and resale value) of a honda or toyota.
Wanted something off road capable and could tow 4wheeler. I also like the way it looks and drives. I live in Maryland and don't see many FJ's on the road. I like driving something that every joe schmoe doesn't own.
Saw a H3 in my parking lot today, wouldn't trade it for my FJ!

Re: Why did you buy?
I bought mine because it's CUTE and super functional.> Also knew I'd be going places that no other could get me there. At the time, I had jetskis.. I needed something that could tow no problem. The Waterproof interior was a no-brainer.. That and it's a Toyota.. If it was anything else, would never buy on a first year model. That and I have a Beagle, he loves the back. And when he gets sick, it's not hard to clean out. Yay for the easily washable interior! :}
Like FJ'rs Say.... You can follow me, but it's going to hurt.
I loved my stripped Black Cherry Pearl, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new Trail Teams.
Thanks Toyota!
I fell in Love hard the first time I ever saw one. And since then.. It's been "Bury me in it or buy me a new one" .. Now it's just Bury me in it..
LOL

I needed a new ride, my old grand caravan had done its time, but was costing too much to run. I hated the FJ the first time I saw one, I laughed at its styling and its dumpy fat rear end. I shopped around for a Defender 2000 but could not afford the import costs ( not aloud to sell them in Canada for some reason) The LR3 was to jeepish and the H3 is just gay. I was in the Toyota dealer checking out what was on offer. At the time the dealer had the only Black FJ I had seen. In fact it was the only one in Alberta at the time. So I took it for a spin just to see if it was as good as the reviews said it was. I was sold. Two weeks later its sat in my drive way. I still think it looks a bit strange, but I have not driven something so cool and capable in a long time. Its mine until it falls apart from rust or will not get my and the canoe out into the bush any more. Its amazing what actually driving one of these will do to improve peoples opinion of it. I've had it almost two years now and still peek out the window every morning to check it out.
