Remotely Wild

Were are the most removed places you've been in your FJC? i.e. How far from fuel, how difficult the terrain, how "wild" the place, etc.?

I'm headed up to the Allegheny National Forest in Northcentral PA, this weekend, Elk Country. Many, many tram-roads to cruise in the most remote areas of Pennsylvania. Can't wait!

What adventures have you and your Cruiser been on?
To what really cool places have you been?
Where do you plan to go next?

Oh, by the way, if you're from the ANF area or familiar with it, what places might you suggest?

Magruder Corridor in Idaho...

The 101-mile primitive Magruder Corridor Road winds through a vast
undeveloped area, offering solitude and pristine beauty as well as
expansive mountain views. The corridor was created in 1980 when the Central Idaho Wilderness Act was passed, leaving a unique road that enables a traveler to drive between two wildernesses: the 1.2- million-acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness to the north, and the 2.3-million-acre Frank Church-
River of No Return Wilderness to the south. Together, they represent
the largest unroaded block of land in the lower 48 states and are nearly
twice as large as the combined states of Delaware and Rhode Island.

Re: Remotely Wild

Whoa! Wonkinator! Sounds like the ultimate trip!

I've often longed to visit British Columbia and Alaska, but for me Idaho is not as far as the former two remote destinations. I'm in the Eastern U.S. There's nothing like being "really far out" in the sticks. My affinity for such adventures is the main reason I bought my FJC.

How far apart are the gas stations?

Thanks all, for the replies. Any others out there with favorite trips to share?

Re: Remotely Wild

From Official Idaho Vacation and Travel Planning Guide - Official Idaho Vacation and Travel Planning Guide

Quote:
This primitive road, named for a miner murdered in the area in 1863, traverses 101 miles along one of the Nez Perce trails between the Selway-Bitterroot and Frank Church Wilderness areas. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s it remains rough, steep and winding with few turnouts. There are no services for 117 miles. A high clearance vehicle is recommended - this route is inappropriate for motor homes or vehicles towing trailers. Check road conditions before heading out. A brochure is available from the Forest Service.

Re: Remotely Wild

You can make it a round trip with this one (which is even nicer!).

Re: Remotely Wild

I drove my FJ down Al-Can highway, starting in Fairbanks, AK down through Jasper National Park in Canada, straight down to Yellowstone, side tracked to Moab, UT and finally eastern New Mexico. I drove it pulling 3500 lbs. in a trailor. I even drove it on the recalled tires didn't want to get news ones and then put all those miles on them.
