New Mexico wheeling

Got to spend a little time off-road on my recent road trip to NM and CO. Sorry, I don't have many photos because my wife is the photographer in our family and she wasn't there this time, and I didn't want to keep stopping on the trail to get out and take them. Here is one near the trail head though:

Youngest daughter and I went up several trails on the mountain behind her in the photo - Oro Quay peak in the San Pedro Mountains in Santa Fe County, NM. The summit is 8,226', but the highest any trail gets is about 7,760'.

It wasn't demanding 4WD, mostly just steep, narrow trails but it was enough to need 4-Low and it was fun. Turning around at the end of the trail was the hardest part. There were no surprises as I'd been on these trails previously in my FJ80. Had an enjoyable day and the FJC performed flawlessly.

Most of these trails are on BLM land, but access is only through private land so I'm not going to post the GPS coordinates - sorry.

Nice report and nice pics . I've often wondered about NM. Very nice indeed.
Thanks for sharing this. The topo was a nice touch too.

Re: New Mexico wheeling

Sounds like fun. Maybe we could get together sometime and go hit some trails.

Re: New Mexico wheeling

I may have been to that area when I was younger. My dad was a geologist and I remember traveling with him all over the San Perdro Mtns. Thanks for sharing. chris
