Visiting Lake Tahoe? check out Genoa peak

The next time your in South Lake Tahoe make sure you check out the Genoa Peak trail. It's an easy trail with an awesome view of the Tahoe basin from the peak (+/- 8900 feet) near the microwave tower.

From south shore Tahoe near the casinos: (stateline)

Take HWY 50 east to 207 (the Kingsbury grade)
Take 207 east to N. Benjamin Dr.
Make a left onto N. Benjamin Dr.
N. Benjamin Dr. turns into Andria Dr.
Take Andria Dr. til the pavement ends

At the end of Andria dr. there is a staging area for OHV. You'll see the gate. It's a nice easy trail that winds through the trees and a small spur trail on the right will take you to the peak where the radio towers and the incredible view are.

Tread lightly! there is a local tour company that uses the trail and the trail has seen additional use by nutjobs leaving garbage and creating new routes. The tour guide told us the trail was in danger of being shut down if things didn't improve. It's not a difficult trail but the view is more than worth it.

Enjoy.

Re: Visiting Lake Tahoe? check out Genoa peak

As far as being closed around thanksgiving.....

It might be, depends on the snow and when the rangers get up there to close the gate. Right now the snow levels are pretty high. (8000 ft and higher)

The drive from south shore (state line and the casinos) is short enough that I think it would still be worth the quick drive to see if the gate was still open. Total round trip time from the Casinos to the gate and back would be around 20 minutes if memory serves correct, so it's not like you would kill your day if make made a quick run to check.
