Re: First Day of TTORA Takeover

Day 1

FJTT on RJ's high centered on first part of the obstacle:

Bent the passenger rear LCA on this ledge.

Wisely winched out:

Day 2

Climbing the first obstacle on Cobra

Slipping between the two cobras

Climbing some stairs on the entrance to The Garage

More ledge action on The Garage

The bowl on the Garage

Actually backing into The Garage

Pulling forward proved to be a little tight

Climbing up to the top at the end of The Garage

And after all that, cruising down a dirt road, the passenger sway bar link snapped and shredded the CV boot, WTF??!!

A good time was had by all! I kept this photo show to FJ's, more Toy pics on the TTORA forum here:

Cool Re: First Day of TTORA Takeover

Thanks Eric, those were great pics. It was nice meeting you and your wife. Thanks for the great spotting. Last night was the TTORA dinner and raffle. We had tacos and enchiladas - very good. When we got there Maureen from the Trail Team came over and talked to us. She saw this thread at her hotel and came over to offer me a job with the team (I wish). Any way it was lots of fun. We missed winning a FJ Demello skid plate by 1 number but the people who won have a Tacoma so we might buy it from them All the vendors gave out tshirts and stuff. I think we came home with 5. We rode the trail with Ted from URD. He said when he got home he would upload some pictures to his photo gallery, so look up "Ted" to see some more pictures. Today is a free trail day, most the vendors are packing and leaving and then the TTORA Takeover will be in the history books. I did learn some important lessons this weekend. First, the FJ is an awesome vehicle. It did as well as any vehicle there and the TTORA family welcomes us with open arms. Second, if you really want to take full advantage of the FJ you need a couple mods. At least a 3" lift, offroad tires, a good skid plate, a cb for communication, and if you can swing it a winch bumper (if not a high lift jack will work too, it just takes longer). And finally, if you're not taking it off road and pushing it a bit, you're missing out. Well we're heading back out for a little more action this morning, so if something cool happens I'll let you know. Thanks! Montana Tailgunner

Re: First Day of TTORA Takeover

Do not ever wheel with your front sway bar......you can all see why now. It takes ten minutes to take out and allow more suspension travel.

Nice pics though!

Cool Re: First Day of TTORA Takeover

Well the TTORA Takeover is over. We saw a lot of rigs leaving out of town today. Everyone had a smile on their face. It was great meeting everyone and those TTORA guys are great. Some friends meet us out in the Glade (that's were the TTORA event took place). Everyone had packed up and left. So we did a little wheelin' ourselves. Dad got a little gung ho and we had to take a cable. My friend Stewart was riding shotgun and he totally freaked out. I have to admit it was a little imtimadating but that's why they invented the winch. All good things come to an end and so did the TTORA but I can't wait to do it again. Montana Tailgunner

Hmm, first time I've heard that and after a year and 30+ trails I was a bit surprised. Especially since it didn't fail on the trail... Oh well, it's off now !

Does it really give you more travel? I seem to recall one vendor testing this and found that taking it out doesn't give you more articulation. Can't remember the vendor, but want to guess it was AllPro. gsgmac, if you've tested this, approximately how much more do you get by having it out?

Fjcruiser123, you're not the only one that had this happen recently. Check out this thread. Same exact thing happened to Dustpark's ride.
