Redington Road #4436 - Tucson, AZ

Took a drive on trail #4436 off Redington Road east of Tucson. Great time! It was a good challenge for me as I am a complete n00b in a 100% stock rig, but I encountered no major problems.

I did learn one important lesson, however. That is: if an obstacle is extremely difficult to cross on the way down the trail, it's probably going to be a lot harder on the way back up. oops.

I just moved down here from Milwaukee, and seeing as I've gone wheelin' every single day since I got here I will likely fall into a schedule of doing this a couple/few times a week. Anyone in the Tucson area - give me a PM, looking forward to driving with you.

This stretch is pretty representative of the first 1/2 of the trail:

Great trail - good mix of rocks and softer stuff.

Awesome scenery!

Stock suspension and wheels had no problem tackling this stuff.

Around the 1/2 way point the elevation was low, the rocks more broken up, and the sand real soft and/or wet.

A few sections were really steep (at least in my n00b opinion). This was some serious fun. Experimented with the ATRAC on the way back up, found it very effective. This picture was taken looking down...

On the way back, I took a brief hike and found a river/rapids in a nice valley. Very scenic stuff, great time.

Hope you enjoyed - adios!

Haha, I turned back not far from the end. There were dark clouds rolling in, and I decided that repeated ridiculous loose-grounded hill climbs was not the place to be when its raining.

I've done a few trails in the immediate area, they are great fun. I've got the "Redington Pass Backcountry Touring Area" map put out by the forest service, lots of trails out there it seems.

You mention Chiva in your sig - I assume thats Chiva Falls off 4405. I'll have to give that a run sometime. Maybe meet up one day.

Well, I went back out on 4436 this morning. Had to give that last run up the hill a try. Great fun - no problem! A bit scary, indeed!

Here I am at the top of the climb.
