Rice Peak, Tucson (trail 4483) - or, tibaal89 is flippin' insane!

So I wanted to drive the "back way" up Mount Lemmon, on the Control Road... but I saw some trails that branched off so I tried some of them.

One of them was the craziest $@!^!@ I have ever imagined. I have never been so scared in my life, it was awesome. The higher you got, the more F'd up the trail was. Narrower, rockier, closer to the edge, etc. Best part was the dead end up 4483.

The majority of this stuff was pretty easy, but that last little bit. MAN! I probably will not do that again, at least not alone. So, somebody come with me or something!

Most of the climbing was 20-40 degrees, extremely loose rocks on dirt.

This is the decent from the top. I wet myself continously for about 15 minutes. I never thought that was possible.

For most of the trail, certain death was a few feet away. In certain parts the trail was inches wider than the FJ.

Don't look down!

This was sort of interesting.

On the top of my list of "thing I don't like to see when I'm on loose rocks in a steep climb with an endless fall a foot from my tires" is this:

This is the beginning of the decent at the very top. Free fall to the right, and a big dip over loose rocks that had me balancing on three wheels... holy crap that was scary.

Great fun! It gave me a chance to test out the new CB setup, was able to listen in to the not-too-distant highway. That's some funny chit out there.

As usual, nothing looks cool in photographs. So, come check it out yourself one day!

Dude...Mike,....please tell me you are not running stuff like that by yourself...
cuz brother it would sux to take a fall down the mountain and not have anyone know where you are or not start looking for the gease smear you made of yourself for many many hours
I can understand running some stuff by yourself in areas where there are other offroaders around but if this isn't a freq traveled road it could be quiet a while before help could get to you.

Welll rant off Just looking out for you brother...
Looking forward to the Phx invasion or Tucson!!! See you on the 16th if you don't make it up here for our run on the 9th (this sunday)

I would be happy to run up there with you. We have done it alot on the quads, but only once in the FJs! That last 1/2 mile is definately worth the trip.

Here is a shot of me repacking the Geocache. It now sports a large Allpro sticker and some cool flames on the old book.

Let me know when you want to go out wheelin' I have a few FJ connections in Tucson, we can set something up!

I appreciate it, Lance. Yea, I'm out there by myself but people at home know where I'm at and I picked labor day for this one inparticular because I figured traffic on the trails would be heavy - there were people everywhere.

Ya know, I missed the bottle and that plate-thing on the rock. I didn't know about that until I came back and looked on the net, and didn't notice it out there. Would have been interesting to see all the stuff in that jug!
