Incredible Air Crash sites

Been following aviation crash site exploration for awhile. Here is a great site to whet your apetite. Great trip reports and photography at remote spots throughout the Southwest; Joe Idoni's Aircraft Crash Sites. I'm adding new sites and locations to this thread now and then, so check posts below. And please add your own.

Edit - I am taking off the coordinates because the forum is publicly accessible. However Forum members can PM me.

Many of these sites appear to require day-long hikes. But that doesn't have to be the case. A little bit of research usually reveals 4WD trails or dry washes surprisingly close in. Please have at it and post your suggested access routes.

The catch is that folks who are really into it, like Joe, never give out the coordinates. So I am doing lotsa Google Earthing and Topo Mapping to find some of these for us. That's the purpose of this thread. BTW these are all in Cali, but there are many many resources for anybody who wants to do the same for their state.

My sense is that yes, they are. The redeeming side is that most of those crash sites have roads built to them by the military for the purpose of eqpt. recovery.

AIR2AIR and I don't want to disturb them, but it would be fun to do some desert running to FIND them.

THIS WINTER!!

Re: Incredible Air Crash sites

"On 8/18/58, a F-100D Super Sabre #56-3089 crashed on the cliffs above Badwater while on a routine training mission. The pilot was able to eject safely landing near the Furnace Creek Inn. Great site with the total aircraft scattered from 1,800’ to 700' msl from the impact on the cliff face. Engine and 20mm cannons still at site. This is my favorite crash site hike due to the climbing, great views and all the cool stuff that remains..." - Joe Idoni

Crash report and photos: Joe Idoni : photos : Death Valley - Badwater F-100D Super Sabre 2/15/03 & 11/19/05

The approach from the back is fairly FJ-able from Dante's View Road, then up some dry washes. This would allow a short climb down from the back of the mountain instead of a 1,800' climp up as Joe did.

Photos below are from Joe Idoni's great Crash Sites Adventures.
