Day 2 started out a little different. First of all, we were short a few FJs. Mike and I had to bum a ride (I am in the "Lone Wrangler" on the end), and the Gibson Baja rig was on it's way to Grand Junction. Here is our lineup for Poison Spider Mesa trail.
This trail departs from the Colorado River to the north and works it's way up onto a plateau.
Along the way there are plenty of places to try out the new lefty crawler box. Unfortunately, this was the last pic I have of Tony this day. His Inchworm Lefty crawler box had an internal failure at the waterfall, and Rich (Trader) stayed behind to tow him out.
Mike (BigBadFJ) was back on spotter duty. I joked with him for being too specific, but I have to give him credit for being very good at this. He takes it seriously, and everyone he spotted made it look effortless.
We all had great fun on "The Wedgie" If run backwards, it is called "The Melvin"
The Trail Team FJ worked flawlessly even with full gear and a full passenger compartment.
This sweet FJ40 was trying to show us the "wheel off the ground" line. No one could seem to find it that day.
Once we got on top, Terry ("The Lone Wrangler") led us all astray. We finally managed to get back on the trail.
The only carnage on this section was some mountain bike that got laid on the trail at an intersection. You guessed it, a distracted Jeeper (I think she was talking on the phone) ran over it. Her comment was "I didn't even feel it" We ALL got a good laugh out of that. Not the carnage, but that comment was priceless.
I figured out how to make up for the fact that pictures do no justice. This is how this little spot should look in pictures.
We stopped for lunch at the arch overlook area. There was no shade so lunch was spread out a bit. The view was cool, but in retrospect, we should have lunched in the shade, and made the walk to the arch on a full stomach.
After lunch we headed back. The sand dunes and final overlook were bypassed for time reasons.
Slickrock is the coolest thing to drive on. If you have never done this, I highly recommend it.
Afterwards we met at Moab Rim Camppark for the raffle and award ceremony. Pictures with the Trail Team was a highlight as were the great Trail Team swag giveaways and FJCC stickers, magnets, log books, and Toyota pens and cool cup cozies.
My Swag collection now includes a camelback, a toolbag (with smaller matching toolbag), a backpack, a camelback backpack, a map case with issues 1,2, and 3, two gear bags, a hat, a heritage pamphlet with DVD, four necklaces with picture barcode cards, and a blue model of my FJ.
Two fearless FJ pilots debriefing.
I am sure there are alot of stories left untold. These memories will last a lifetime. My only regret is for the gatherings I could not attend, and my only wish is that I can go to more next year.
