Well, I am traveling a ton for work right now so I was not too sure if I would be out exploring this weekend. At the last minute we decided to check out Kingston Peak. TrailDamage had it rated at an easy 2 so we figured it would be a nice easy day. The best pics below, but follow the link for more:
Kingston Peak 9-23-2007
The main thing about this trail that I thought was pretty cool was much of it was at a very high altitude and had a good portion of the trail was on a shelf with pretty steep sides. Some of our pics looked like we might have been in an airplane.
The down side of the trail is it is all rock and boulders. Very bumpy for a very long time, but it is not difficult at all. There are a lot of hiking trails that would be interesting to explore one day. Many parts of the trail are one way with very little to no room for people to pass.
In the end the hose on my air compressor crapped out on me so I had to limp to the nearest filling station in Idaho springs with only the drivers side of the truck fully inflated. Time to find a different compressor. Guess that is what I get for only spending $40.
HWY6 leaving Denver Area, looks like rain...
Old Chevy (I think) was doing 35 mph all the way up hwy 6 to Blackhawk, very slow going...
A little rain, just enough to keep the dust down.
Looking down from F.S. 176 down on F.S. 149. The road at this point is an all season dirt road, very smooth...
The Aspens are in full yellow, another week the leaves will be gone
Can you believe 90% of the fir trees in this area will be destroyed by some pesty beetle!?!
The sky is sooooo BIG!
This is what it looks like above the tree line, we are around 11,000 ft here.
Got to have an FJ pic.
The road is rock all the way once you hit the 4x4 trail.
The stone house. Be sure to sign the guest book!
