Pictures of Wyoming

These are some pictures around the area in Wyoming where I live that I took about 3 weeks ago.

This is the Green River a few miles southeast of Green River and southwest of Rock Springs.

The city of Green River is located in the center of the picture.

These are taken to the north of I80 between the two cities and are rock formations that you can see from the Interstate. I80 is in the canyon below the grassy hill at the bottom of the picture.

This formation is Pilot Butte. It can be seen for 30 miles in every direction and was used for navigation by Jim Bridger and others coming through the area. The Green River chamber of commerce used to hold meetings on top of it years ago. They installed a ladder on the side to climb to the top.

The flat top rock in the distance in the center of the picture is called Table Mountain (I believe and will check). It is in an area called the Lucite Hills which is an area with unique geological features. They have found industrial quality diamonds there. There are also sand dunes out there. I will try to get out there and take pictures sometime.

I really wish I could make myself move to that area. Im guessing the run to wyoming isn't exactly like the run to Colorado. Seems like everyone is moving to colorado.

Re: Pictures of Wyoming

Hey 1/2mill90,
I am currently in the Rock Springs/Green River area and will be until mid November. I have been checking out the Flaming Gorge area and hitting some of the trails. I wouldn't mind meeting up with some other FJ owners out here. Shoot me a pm if you want to hit some of the trails.

I wouldn't say that is true right now for the Rock Springs/Green River area. There is a huge population boom (for Wyoming) due to the oil and natural gas industries. The housing here is scarce and way expensive imo.

Re: Pictures of Wyoming

Great photos of a very beautiful countryside. I'm been to Yellowstone and Grand Teton a bunch of times but haven't venture this far south in Wyoming yet.

Re: Pictures of Wyoming

I was bornt in Rock Springs and growed up in Pinedale. Got myself partway edumacated at WWCC. Those pics bring back lots of memories... like digging myself out of a 200 yard long snowdrift at 3am in my buddies 4runner. Just so happened to be on the road from which you took the pics. Also happened to be -45 with the windchill.
