Trail Report/Photo Section/GPS CoordinatesBeen offroad with your FJ? Tell us about it and post up any photos or GPS coordinates so others can possibly follow in your footsteps!
In my Escape. I know it's off topic, but I will have a real FJ some day, I promise. Anyway we can use this as sort of a benchmark. You know, so you can see if your FJ can keep up with something in a totally different class.
I went for an evening run. But it was early enough that I know I could reach the summit before dark. I had to really focus to get back down before dusk, since I do not have any real off road lights.
I did the entire run without a spotter, so, as you may well guess, I had to make several attempts before I lucked out and found a line that I could get up. And I don't even have an inclinometer - white knuckles all the way.
The first picture shows the sick wheel articulation of the Escape. I didn't even angle the camera (like some people here) to make the incline look steeper.
Now this picture is from a little further back so you can really appreciate the situation. That rock had to have been at least 4 inches tall. Pretty much straight up too.
It was a lot of fun. I made it out with absolutely no trail damage. Back home now, safe and sound.

That was a pretty gnarly run for a stock escape. You are ready for some upgrades for sure. You might try letting a half pound out of the spare next time, or you can loosen your antannae for more articulation.

Good times.
I have an XM radio antenna in front of the moon roof, so that is probably why I was able to make it. It's one of those magnet base types, so I can move it around a little if needed.
I'm going to put it up on a lift and take a look before I go again. I need to make sure I didn't break anything. I'd hate to get stuck up on the top and have to walk back down.
